OS Daily Thread Monday 23rd April 2007 - St George's Day

afternoon all,
Have been running around like a headless chicken since I got up this morning and still managed to get little done...OH had dinner on when I came back from a 30min drop with nephew2...due to traffic it took me more than an hour.
DD4 is home from college to-day and has finished painting the bathroom floor...she decided last week that room was in need of redecoration and as the floor had never been sealed as intended she has painted it white...looks well I must say, might let her loose on the rest of the house when she has holidays.
Lashing rain here to-day, great for the garden and also an excuse to do very little, the ironing might see some reduction later as I am trying to declutter my bedroom a little at a time, I get bogged down if I take on too much so am taking very tiny steps.
Hugs to all

Hi! Just thought I'd drop in while having a cuppa!
LIL-ME has your freezer arrived yet? I'd love one of those big American ones but I would want to fill it right up just to look at it! You could put all the food at the front of it so it looks really full without spending too much!:T :T
ANNIE B - where do you get all that energy and determination from and can you send some to me?:j :j
CRAZY - poor OH (((hugs))) - hope his pills work soon:A :A
MRS MIX - how are you? What a bore having to spend all that time in Boots especially for a prescription. You'd think they'd be trained not to keep people waiting for medication, wouldn't you?:A :A
ANNIE S - welcome to Insomniacs R Us!! Pretty soon there'll be an OS NIGHTLY Thread!
MR CM - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
First of all, has anyone else got a slow stubborn 'thanks' button? Mine takes ages sometimes!
Well, I am feeling quite virtuous at the moment because I have done a huge pile of ironing AND put it away! I have tackled some paperwork and put the rest ready so I can start on it straightaway after breakfast! Dinner is ready to go on and rhubarb stewed; wanted to make Groatie's fruit cake but, when I looked at the recipe again, it said to soak the fruit and sugar in the tea for 6 hours or overnight so it's soaking now (with a little bit of sherry in it that was left over from Christmas so it smells lovely!) and will be baked tomorrow! I was tempted to just mix it all up and bake it but it probably really tastes great if it's had a chance to soak so will have to be patient.
Popped into the local charity shop in my hunt for something to make a toga out of for DS2's toga party on Friday and found a huge long white cotton coat - like a doctor's coat, I suppose - so hopefully will be able to make something out of that. I shall just get some ivy from the garden and wrap it round some curtain wire to go round his head and I've rummaged in my fabrics box and found lots of other bits and pieces to go with it. Of course, I couldn't resist two pairs of shoes - £1.49 a pair! - a bagatelle game for my GS and a really good kitchen timer. I also saw - and stupidly didn't buy - what looked like a brand-new BM priced at £7.00. I didn't buy it because there was no instruction book with it and as I've never had one before, I thought I'd get everything wrong and then I realised that one of you lovely people would be able to tell me how to use it and may even have the same model. I didn't even take a note of the make, either. Should I go back and see if it's still there tomorrow? I've been wanting one for ages - DOH! I think I will go back and see if it's still there! The cheapest brand-new one I've seen is £39.99 in Sainsbury's so £7.00 is a real bargain, isn't it? And it didn't look as if it had been used! I feel really silly now and it's too late to go back now because they'll be closed by the time I get there!
Anyway, DH will be home soon - I want to get dinner eaten and cleared up early for a change; these light sunny evenings (which have disappeared!) always stop us watching television and we end up pottering about for ages instead. I haven't done any knitting for ages and I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms. It's so overcast here, although it hasn't really rained, just spat enough times to stop me putting the washing out, so it's looking like the kind of evening to settle down early and knit. Can't see anything worth watching on the box - have to rummage through the freebie DVDs that the Daily Mail keep giving away!
Anyway, hope you have all had a brilliant St George's Day and that you have a lovely evening. Will drop in later after my bath!  :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

I have just spent the afternoon trying to sort out some more of my stuff, the saying quart into a pint pot won't go springs to mind............I keep chucking stuff out and putting stuff in a bag for the charity shop........I just have 2 large crates to get into one small one and then need my shelves putting up and I have 3 boxes to empty and thats IT!!!!!
I put the portable TV on free cycle to date I have had over 30 emails, too bad, its gone....chap is collecting it at 6.30pm. I have a floor fan which is going to have to go as well, I will replace it with a smaller one that will fit on my bedside chest.
Cooking a reduced turkey breast from Mr T's with carrots, brocc, cauli, roast spuds might even have a glass of chilled chardonay with it....Not sure whats for afters though, need to see whats in the freezer.
I had to ring the DVLA, they sent my registration documents back with the wrong address on, I sent them back and I have not had it back yet...... I need it for 2 weeks on Tuesday, we are off to France in the car and I dare not go without it. OH is also waiting for his licience to be returned.
I wrote to the removers with a damage claim, have not heard anything from them, 2 weeks on Wednesday since we moved, time I heard something.
I did get a letter from Severn Trent re our leakage allowence, they have confirmed what I suspected that the leak had been going on since the meter was first put in May 2004, we are just waiting for the revised bill........it will be interesting.............
Off to have my supper, have a great evening........PS forgot to say I did a load of whites this morning. I was not too sure how washing in a communal laundry would work out, but so far its been ok............alternate between white coloureds, towels and bedding, the machines are commercial ones so take quite a bid load, the dryers will dry, ironing, dry or extra dry so its great..........Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

Oh, congrat's to VickyA's team, who got through to the Hooligan cup final at the weekend :j
Why, thank you very much.
Obviously they'd be nothing without my support..........
One day I'll be their chief towel passer/bath tap turner on-er/back scrubber.
Happy Birthday :bdaycake: to all those people that I missed.
:grouphug: to all those that need them and :j :j celebrations and jubilations to others.
Sorry I've been AWOL for a few days, but I'd forgotten what it was like to try to be permanently organised. As I'm disorganised at the best of times
then it's been a little bit of a shock to the system.
I managed to sell a couple of things on ebay and I'm waiting for one person to collect their "winnings". She should have been here at 6 and I'm still waiting 15 mins later.
Other than going to see my beloved team get through into the final of the European (Heineken) Cup on Saturday, the weekend reached its pinnacle on Sunday. It's my great-aunt's 90th birthday today and yesterday was her party at a restaurant outside Lincoln. Because she and my grandpa (they were bro and sis) had regular fallings out, then we never really get to see her and her children (and grandchildren). So, when I was asked yesterday by her grandsons "how do you know her?" I had to point out that we were related.
It was lovely to catch up with people that we hadn't seen for ages.
Anyway, supper tonight is veggie lasagne which I will have to start to prepare. We're having it with salad and left overs will be tomorrow night's supper!
 bye for now.

Thanks Danna - I will, I SO will - in fact, I'm starting to panic that it won't be there! It's the same shop where I saw a proper old-fashioned coat rack - you know, the round ones with a single pole and the arms at the top. I'd been wanting one for ages to save space in my porch. It was £8.00 and I forgot about it once I'd seen it then thought about it again about a week later and it was still there. Of course, you then start to wonder why no-one else wanted it! I am going to get going early tomorrow and rush in to get it! Oh, please let it be there - I really want it now!Mioliere

Mioliere..
I agree with Dannahaz...go back and get the breadmaker!
I am very unadventurous with mine, DS1 gave it to me and I don't like the size of loaf it makes, and I had a dismal failure with the only cake I tried to make. I do, however find it wonderful to make pizza dough which I then shape into rolls, loaves or whatever, leave to prove and the bread is delicious. Its a Tefal, bought in Holland and the instruction book is very limited in detail, but I am making better yeast bread than I ever did before and have cut down greatly on the amount we buy. Someday I am going to master the whole range of programmes but until then I wouldn't be without it as I hate that sticky kneading one has to do with bread.
Good luck, hope its still there when you go back

Hi All! Been away for some time, but am posting here again as I'll be at home for a bit now. My back is dodgy - thought it would be better by now, but have just been signed off for "2 weeks - initially"! Talk about being depressed! Can't even tackle the clutter and cleaning. Feel totally lousy and need kick up the proverbial - know you'll all oblige!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0
