Corrupt lower case É (e acute)

Options
If I write anything in French in these forums (even just names of companies, places etc) which contain a lower case É (e acute), the site changes it to an exclamation mark. On the other hand, I can type or copy/paste in other alphabets with no problem. Why does this one character become corrupted whenever a post contains it?

It's a historic thing: it's the spam filter which 'gets' the e acute ...

What has É got to do with spam, and when will this be fixed? And why has this particular character been singled out? It seems very anti-French.

Not anti-French in the slightest. People used e' to try and get round the spam and swear filter, so it was blocked.

    Do you really believe that?

I don't understand why the site blocks all French words containing lower case É rather than only the relevant banned English words where the author has changed lower case E to lower case É. The site is unfairly discriminating against the French language because É is the most common accented vowel in French and the site does not similarly block any of the following vowels which are common in other European languages: â à ä ã å ê è ë î ì ï ô ò ö õ û ù ü

Therefore please could this unfair discrimination against the French language be fixed. Please block only the specific words that you want to prevent rather than a huge innocent part of the French language whose blocking is not merited.

Wouldn't hold your breath as this is the site that thinks the sight of the words S-c-u-n-t-h-o-r-p-e and f-e-c-k-l-e-s-s will bring the end of the world upon us!

The stupid thing is that you can write all kinds of other words using the allowed vowels. For example there's a German coach company called Fücker and that doesn't get blocked (even without the -er ending), yet Scùnthorpe (without the accent) is blocked. The banned word list needs to be revised, particularly individual characters.

    Hi

Yes, that's in the filter to stop certain types of spam.

Why block French and not other languages then? I don't understand why French has been singled out here. Please could you fix it.

When is this going to be fixed? Why is it that I can't write innocent words like CAFÉ in lower case but I can write rude words like shìt and fùck? It seems that accents used in French are being singled out for blocking, but accents used in other languages are allowed. When is this anti-French discrimination going to end?
