Went to Asda last night for cheap beans and tinned tomatoes, and was going to pick up 3 peppers in a pack and they were £1.65!! I looked at Lidl online and saw theirs are on offer for 89p.
Where do others buy their fruit and veg from?

This really makes me wish that there was a Lidl within my walking distance here! Cheapest here is £1.49 at Aldi, and £1.50 (have to buy 2 for £3) at Morrisons. We are out of the ones I sliced and put into the freezer last time Aldi had them on their super 6 deal for £0.69 for 3 peppers.

    morning all
hope everyone is staying safe and warm - freezing fog in our part of the world today.
stitcking to plan and managed 2 nsd's in a row and hoping today will be the 3rd.
meal planning and 2nd purse for non food spends is working well so far.

on saturday i even bought a new duvet for one of the kids and a frying pan from money i had left over from small food shop bill, bt hoping to save 'left over' money for the next couple of weeks so i can have some to do a farm foods freezer filler shop next month without going over budget.

hello...its grim here today cold/icy under foot and foggy so better to say in and drink hot drinks...i did a meal plan yesterday for next week so happy with that...this week we are eating our way through a ham i got reduced in tesco before christmas...yesterday we had slices with jacket pots and veg...tonight we are having ham slices fried eggs chips and peas...tomorrow some sort of pasta dish with a cheese sauce and ham...next day a quiche with last scraps of ham in....i shall then boil the bone and make some soup...cost of ham £6 oh and dh and ds have taken sarnies with ham in as well

only problem is we may never want to see ham again....it has been very nice so far...i might even squeeze a ham and chicen pie out of it as well

right im off to have a drink and something other than a ham sandwick

My first thought was gross! But as I have been thinking about it overnight I started to wonder why we in Britain think its perfectly fine to eat poor chickens who have never seen light, Cow's & sheep who had horrendous journey to be killed and treated badly and yet the thought of eating a horse that has probably had perfectly good lifestyle makes everyone freak out!
True - they shouldn't be hiding it away in food and saying its something else but why do people in Britain have such a problem with horse meat and rabbits? Other countries eat this stuff all the time. Is it because we like to think of them as pets. If so then stop eating chicken as they are some of the best 'pets' that we have ever had!

  • Morning all hope you are all keeping warm

Managed to keep my shopping small this morning after dropping the car off. Flora bogof offer was seemingly finished at Tesco Extra but 500g tubs of Flora were 2 for £2 so still good.

Spent £6.58 at MrT on cornflakes, biscuits, cake mix, 6 x stock cubes, tin tomatoes, spaghetti hoops, cheese and flora - love the 10p stock cubes and 35p value cornflakes!

Spent £1.61 in Al*i on butternut squash, custard creams and wheaties and resisted everything else!

Going to be well under original £400 budget this month as being my first try I didn't know how I would fare - still secretly hoping for £200 but realistically it will be £250 which is still amazing as probably still less than half what I usually spend!!! DH is going to LOVE my credit card bill this month ( always paid in full - NEVER paid any interest in 15 years!)

Thanks for all the encouragement to do baby led weaning. I've been a bit worried about the choking risk of eating solid food but yes the idea of eating normal food does sound natural and I will give it some serious thought.

I understand the choking worry but if you mash, shred or chop everything small enough it will be fine.

Also take care to feed small amounts, if I gave my daughter a full spoon of anything I got splattered everytime :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

more no spend days for us. In laws came over yesterday and brought dinner with them (and enough LO for tonight). DD is off school poorly today so no plans to leave the house other than to collect DS from pre-school.

I do need to work out a mealplan and shopping list for next few days. Need to work out if I can get away with no 'proper' shop until next week. We will need some fruit, veg and milk at minimum though so it may be worth doing a full shop in town rather than a trip to smaller local (and more expensive) shop.

The idea behind 'baby led' is that you dont actually do anything to the food other than what you would do for your own plate. You also dont spoon feed them at all.

Young children have a completely different gag reflex to adults and it changes as they get older so it is almost impossible for them to choke on the food. All 4 of my children learnt this way over the last 15 years and I was brought up this way and I am 38 so really it is nothing new. Could you imagine them using a food processor in the middle ages?!

Also baby food in jars is pasteurised to help prolong life. This leads children to develop a taste for processed food and that is why so many children have problems accepting good normal fresh food when they are older.

As someone else said 'food before one is just for fun' they get all their nutrients through milk until then.

    Hey all,

Im sorry I havent had a chance to keep up with the thread.... 13 hour shifts dont really allow for that! But I hope youre all well and on track! :D

Spends so far for the month are...

    £73.04 on Mr T delivery.
    £35.63 for extras at A$da
    £3.43 super 6 shop
£1.29 for milk etc at L!dl

    £113.39 so far.

Leaves me £36.61 for the month and Im still feeling thats achievable! Ill need milk and more fresh fruit as I go on, but so far Ive stayed on track and only bought what I actually need! Lots of no-spend days helps a lot too... :T

Meal planning has definitely helped a lot! I need to go through the list and score out whats been used while Ive been working etc and organise the next week in advance... That way I will stick to the plan and not start using things which are earmarked for part of a different meal, iykwim.
