My first thought was gross! But as I have been thinking about it overnight I started to wonder why we in Britain think its perfectly fine to eat poor chickens who have never seen light, Cow's & sheep who had horrendous journey to be killed and treated badly and yet the thought of eating a horse that has probably had perfectly good lifestyle makes everyone freak out!
True - they shouldn't be hiding it away in food and saying its something else but why do people in Britain have such a problem with horse meat and rabbits? Other countries eat this stuff all the time. Is it because we like to think of them as pets. If so then stop eating chicken as they are some of the best 'pets' that we have ever had!

Hi Mamjak :) It is true that many countries find eating certain meats perfectly acceptable, but equally true that others do not. It comes down to personal preference and if we don't choose to buy a certain product, whether it be chicken, rabbit, horse, or anything, then, I agree, it definately should not be sneaked into our food. I personally wish I was disciplined enough to be vegetarian, but am sorry to say I am not:o However I do try to buy locally sourced produce that hasn't been transported for miles. I like to think I care enough about animal welfare to be careful about what I buy. However, I would definately not knowingly eat Horse, Rabbit, Dog or Cat as I do consider them pets -and I suppose if I kept Chickens, Sheep & Cows I wouldn't eat those either because they would be my pets -maybe I could have Eggs, Wool and Milk though:)

A NSD for me today. Nothing to be bought:j HM Stew & Dumplings for tea and HM sticky ginger cake after.

2 HM wholemeal loaves made and a kilo of Yoghurt:)

updated my signature with spends since last posting and I now have £160.63 spent. Only £79.37 left and two weeks to go. I have committed £53 of that to an online shop with sainsbobs so really only £26 left. I will go over but will contain by how much.
  • Everyone seems to be doing so well.
My initial spendfree days at the beginning of the month is now catching up on me! Going to have to be more careful. On the plus side I did take 3 things back to Primarni so that was refunded back into my bank account. And I'm still taking my lunches into work.
Hope everyone is ok in this freezing weather

Another no spend day!!! Not been at all yet this week!!!:j
    I simply must go tomorrow.

Too many things I wanna do and not enough time left to squeeze shopping in yet this week.

    Lets see what tomorrow brings.

I heard that cheese is only about £1.15 for a 300g block of mature cheddar at lidls this weekend. In fact it might have been a 400g.

Either way, its worth stocking up on.

    Night peeps.

Food is an area of our budget I need to get better control of. This thread is brilliant. I am not sure if I can join in officially as I am paid on the 19th each month so I work to a different month to everyone else I guess.

I need to list my cupboards, freezer and fridge first I think.

    Hi lbnblbnb :)

Some people run their budgets payday to payday, others by calendar month, or weekly - it's up to you. If you would like to sign up please let me know what budget you would like to set and I'll add you to the list on page 1. Please post large and red so I can spot it - the thread is moving really fast this month :D
