Try those. There are lots of places that sell wooden toys :)

I think when you have a baby you can read all the books in the world, but to most (not all) parenting, and knowing the "right" way of doing things comes naturally to us. And if we've had a good upbringing we will often call upon our own values, cultural norms and attitudes of our parents when raising our kids...if we've not had a good upbringing then I can see why people go out of their way to seek other ways but I often find myself saying the exact same thing my mother/grandmother said to me and I always said i'd never do it that way. Now i'm a parent I realise they were right in most of what they said though :rotfl:

I studied a lot of theories on how to raise children/babies and also different schooling systems in my degree and I have to say that my way does not conform to one particular model but I seem to take on different aspects of several different ones :). I think it's great that you have thought about it so much it goes to show that you really care and will be a great mum but please don't try to box yourself into one particular theory as all babies are different. What worked for one of my children may not have worked for the other two and I would hate for you to get all worked up/upset if the method you had chosen didn't work. :)

Thanks DFW, I love wooden toys <3 I'm going to take a few aspects that I like from the different schooling things I've read. I think this one really spoke to me as it's something I have thought all along. I think from watching my nephew only speak about things he's seen on tv and having so many toys he doesn't know what to do with himself, I'd already decided I didn't want her having lots of toys nor plastic ones. Although by the time she's about 1 I think I'm going to have to clear some space on my craft shelves for her to have her own educational materials.

Don't worry though, I'm just going to go with the flow. At the breastfeeding class on Saturday OH told me off for not holding the baby "properly". I put the baby on the middle of my chest so it could find it's own way to the breast. The lady taking the class said that actually I was probably doing the best thing as we get so worked up on instructions that we forget to do what comes naturally.

My OH is a grumpy <insert expletive>!!! I've been doing lots more around the house recently, yet he decides this morning (after going to the pub last night) to have a massive go at me because I didn't pick up a glass in the living room...well neither did he! I did however clean the bathroom yesterday and I've been making sure to keep everywhere tidy, hrumph!

This has called for some retail therapy I must confess. I've so far bought baby her mattress for the cotbed, some fitted sheets and a mattress cover :) I'm off to that Swedish furniture shop shortly to buy some black & white pictures to put on the wall at child height, a mirror to go lengthways alongside her mattress that's going on the floor, and a little billy bookshelf for her books and toys that I've yet to make/buy. Then I'm off to h0bbycraft to buy some bits for making mobiles :)

OH can make his own dinner tonight when he gets back, I'm going on strike. If he thinks I don't do anything around the house, just he wait and see exactly how little I do. He'll be apologising soon enough when he realises it's me that does the food shopping, makes sure he has milk for his coffee, juice in the morning, his dinner ready when we've got to go out in the evening, the heating on when he gets home, etc, etc, etc.

I am currently still just sat here in my pjs listening to new age music that's meant to calm me down, it's my birth music, yet it's not really helping as I'm cross. Ho hum.

Completely agree. Take the bits that suit you, your family and your babe from everything that's out there and ditch the rest;)

Sorry for the radio silence, no baby yet but she's extremely low. We've just been for our spa weekend, it was absolutely lush. Sadly still not engaged but Nevendon having a baby and a loving man will be enough for now. He'll come around eventually. I've been having lots of Braxton Hicks though. Neither of us think she's going to go full term as (tmi alert) OH felt her whilst fooling around at the weekend!!!

Need to sort out savings for the month and do scores on the doors. Going to finish sorting the house out this week.but shouldn't need to buy anything this month :)

Well scores on the doors are poor :( I've bought all the parts for my computer though and they're gradually arriving over the week. I'm off out in a minute for the MW to take some blood, then I'll be back to do some sorting of the house.

Have just paid the Am3x off for work expenses, although have realised I still am owed £265.10 so will send off my receipts today to get those paid for.

Scores on the doors currently stand at total saved of £2534.91, but am hoping to increase this. Still disappointed that it's not higher, and I really need to be better with my money this month. However, OH really likes the watch I bought him, all Christmas presents have been purchased, and I've got a computer on the way. I've also got the baby's room sorted and OH needs to give me half the money towards the mattress, fitted sheet & mattress protector for the baby so that's another £40 I'm due. I might ask him for that later so I can put it into my savings and earn interest.

Right, best go and get dressed. Why is it even though I'm on holiday I still feel like I have a million things I need to do?

Hi..doesn't sound too bad if I am honest..it's a spendy time of year and there is the babe stuff to pay for..

I have to take issue with the word 'holiday'!! ;) it ain't a holiday...it's necessary R&R and preparation...you need to take it easy!

Well I've spent the last two days practically sleeping all day. I fell asleep during a film yesterday even though I was really enjoying the film!!!

Nesting is definitely taking over, I'm working my way through my craft things in the dining room and I now have a place for everything....well when it's all out the boxes anyway. I feel really happy about it and each thing I tidy away makes me happier. OH can't see that I've made too much progress, but I really have there's even a box filled with all the pens I can never find!!!

Moneywise, today I spent in l1dl on some pr1ngles for xmas, some choc biccies, and then used the joint account to buy some baskets for my craft stuff. So doing ok on the money front at the moment :) Although I have 3 parcels that need collecting from the delivery office tomorrow, mostly for making mobiles and toys for the baby.

All Christmas pressies are paid for and bought except a pair of socks for OH's Mums' husband. He can buy that though as I've sorted out all the other pressies :) oh and probably a voucher for my sister.
