To be perfectly honest ladies, I was laughing as well :) Thankfully the man has gone home today, so I have my spare room back yay  I couldn't get comfortable to go to sleep last night and everytime I was just about to drop off, OH would start chewing his teeth which really winds me up!!! I ended up going downstairs in a strop, stealing the blanket we use for the cats (whilst they were sleeping on it!) and sleeping on the sofa. Woke up part-way through the night, decided I was sleepy enough to get back into bed so went back up although this in turn woke OH up and I woke at 7am to find he was then asleep on the sofa hahahahaha. I think we're going to have to tell his Mum that if she wants to come up for NYE then she'll have to come up for the 30th - 1st as I can't handle people staying any longer than that whilst I'm pregnant as I need a spare room to sleep in. Lol.

Plan of action for the day: MW appointment in an hour, then the bloke from the cat sitting company is coming over this afternoon to meet me and pick up keys so need to get those cut whilst I'm out. Then general not doing very much and enjoying the peace & quiet in the house woohooo. Going to make roast for dinner tonight which will please OH. I also want to find out whether you can boil up potatos, season to make roasties and then freeze. Would be awesome to be able to have some freezer meals of roast dinner for post-baby when we can't be bothered to cook...I shall go find out :)

  • Morning Kerri :j

I also had a little laugh at the FIl :rotfl:I don't have a FIL but my MIL sure enough makes up for not having one. She is a Dr of some sort of quantum physics thing (far too intellectual for me) and all she talks about is random intellectual things that go *whoosh* straight over my head. I have to sit there and endure it as my DH (HER son) goes "mum, I'm not listening to this anymore i'm off to do XYZ but i'm sure DW wants to hear ALL about it *snigger* " and off he trots  she drives me nuts!!! I can well see where my DS1 gets it from (let's face it i'm no brainbox when it comes to maths, science or geography and he is) and i've started encouraging him out of his room when she's here so he can listen to it and both me and DH stand in the kitchen listening and sniggering :rotfl: Oh dear, how childish of us :p

Oh and I also googled if you can freeze roast potatoes yesterday! I made waaaaaaaaay too many and found I could. I didn't read down as far as how to re-heat them without a microwave though *d'oh* I need some of the MIL's brains :rotfl:

  • Hi Kerri, hope the mw appointment goes well today and all is good.

It's my Mum that doesn't stop talking and she recounts stories A LOT of times, especially if they're about me as a kid! She also uses her hands as she's talking so beware if you're sitting next to her. :rotfl:

I sometimes do roast potatoes using tinned new potatoes, therefore you don't have to par boil them and can just stick in the oven.

    Have a lovely day, C x

Ooh naughty me haven't updated since Monday! Tsk tsk! The MW sent me for a growth scan as she can't use a measure (again!) and measured me as 28cm. The hospital called at 4pm and decided that because I'm now apparently 6cm behind the average and not really grown since 1st November that they wanted to monitor baby. So a mad dash across the city in rush hour traffic (joy!) and I was measured by two MW's there, who measured me as 31cm and said they could see from looking at me that I was the right size for current gestation, just that I'm very petite! I did say "well I am wearing a size 4, this baby is only going to be a 7lber". They gave me a soggy manky cheese & tomato sarnie, but I was starving so scoffed it anyway ;) Baby's heartbeat was lovely and I could see from the monitor that I'm having braxton hicks contractions, lovely jubbly. I now know what to look out for, and seem to be having quite a lot of those of the past few days although they're definitely not painful or uncomfortable it's just weird watching my tummy go all solid. Anyway, was sent back home and told to come back in the morning for the sonographer to scan me.

Yesterday was the anniversary of my Grandad's passing and I was in very much a thinking frame of mind. The hospital had a student sonographer there for her first week and so I let them spend longer than usual showing her how to use the machine and they gave me 3 lovely photos of baby's face. She's measuring perfectly and is roughly 5lb now :) her head is firmly in my pelvis and she's 2/5 engaged with lots of lovely fluid around her so they're more than happy.

I've been thinking a lot recently about how we should raise baby and OH and I discussed this over celebratory pizza last night. Oh my promotion at work has been approved so I've gone up a grade, this should lead to a pay rise next year as I'm now under the pay bracket for my grade :D yay!

Anyway, I've been researching the Montessori beliefs, these are to observe a child and provide them with an environment in which they can learn and develop independence. It focuses more on teaching a child through discipline than through punishment. So if they hit you whilst in your arms, you'd drop them in a controlled way. The next time they go to hit you, you ask them if they want you to drop them again. The child learns that hitting is not ok. It also focuses on giving them sensible choices, so "would you like to brush your teeth or get dressed first?" and not asking them if something is "ok?" at the end of a command i.e. "we're going to go to school now, ok?". In theory it builds confident, independent children with an awareness of others and how an action can make another feel. It also teaches them through observing, they observe you stacking the blocks through a presentation to them and then they will be allowed to use that piece of "equipment". It also teaches order and that everything has a place. I can already see my OH absolutely loving it as he says I'm really messy. One of the controversial aspects is giving the child a glass cup and bowl when they are ready to wean, this allows them to see the contents and learn that if they drop glass it breaks so they have to be careful hopefully leading to children that don't throw their bowls/cups/etc all over the room. The thing I like most is the aspect of getting the child involved in everyday tasks, like cooking/cleaning/etc and not just plonking them in front of a television. It also focuses on using natural material toys that are educational instead of noisy plastic ones. But can I find where to buy natural wooden toys in the uk, can I heck? grrr.

Moneywise: payday on Friday, canne wait as it means I can do a scores on the doors. Not done as well as I had hoped this month, but certainly better than I've ever done before so won't chastise myself too much. Will put more money aside this month and hopefully will be able to buy my computer yay :D Going to buy baby a mattress for her cotbed, although thinking about taking down the cot until we need it for a bed. Instead putting the mattress on the floor with a mirror on the wall. It's slightly controversial but according to the principles it's meant to allow them to move as they wish. Either way I need a mattress for the cot and I shall go to that Swedish furniture place for a mirror to put on the wall. Last day of work today :D
