(I previously considered joining the military but found out that your e automatically shipped off to places like Iraq after you finish training and I refuse to fight a war that isn't even ours and I've lost enough friends from that war already so I changed my mind),

You really are unbelievable. Why bother joining the military when theres plenty of people to do if for you so you can sit at home and moan about not having £5 for a bus fare.

You're right - you should wait for someone to knock on your door to offer you that brain surgeons job.
  • OP - I think you're just confirming what a lot of people think about benefits claimants.

i.e. there are people who claim who have a chip on their shoulder about how unfair everything is, how they have rights to things, all you get is excuses and 'woe is me' stories about how hard done by they are.

Ultimately, then its just an excuse to not actually have to bother getting a job.

You've spent more time on here posting rather than thinking of ways of getting to this interview. Walk there if you have to! Hitchhike -whatever..... Wheres theres will theres a way...

When you are on benefits you have to follow the rules, if that means selling something which was a gift to get to an interview then do it.

It's not "sick" by any means it's being practical and matter of fact.

You had the means to get to the interview and chose not to use them.

I know sometimes people have no-one to ask but OP mentions refusals from people he has asked. Well I don't have much and neither do my friends but i know if I asked for £1 or £2 they would loan/give it to me even if they had to count it out in coppers.

As for carers well since my Grandad died Nan has had two letters from them and now a repeat visit (everything should have been sorted on the first) by the council benefits officer due to the carers... well they both got Attendance Allowance and never carers in their lives!!

And I'll repeat for the last time I am not selling any of my things that I have left because they are gifts from family members mist of them including my grandmother, if you seriously expect me to sell my iPod, an 18th birthday gift i was given by my grandmother and always treasured then you have a sick mind, how anyone can suggest that is beyond me that's just plain horrible, I've earnt my gifts and things by helping out an doing things for my family or received them on special occasions, if they were things I'd bought myself I'd sell them for cash instantly in a heartbeat to make ends meet, but seriously you just don't say to people to practically sell memories of their family that is beyond horrifying in a way I can't begin to describe.

If that was aimed at me (my post #43) you obviously don't understand the principle by which "pawn broker" type shops operate. They are legally obliged to keep your goods secure for a period (not sure but I think it's around 10 days), after which they contact you to ask you whether you want to buy it back (obviously at a higher price than they gave you for it, or they wouldn't make any money), and only if you say no you don't would they proceed to offer it for sale.

At least that's how it worked when we took an old TV to Cash Convertors - we had a letter after about a week, telling us we had 3 days (or something like that) to buy the TV back otherwise it would be sold.

This is worth knowing for anyone who lives close to the breadline - it's an easy, if expensive, way of bridging the gap until your next payment arrives. Obviously not recommended as a way of life, as you will pay over the odds to retrieve your own goods, but it's there in a crisis. It's a bit like a Pay Day loan, only you're not signing your life away.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Paul why are you even here posting, I'm asking for help and it's people like you that judge and get on my nerves, this is my asking for help not a CommentNCritique forum so in all fairness take your criticism elsewhere.

I don't smoke or drink the thought of it alone is disgusting, just looking at people drinking alcohol or smoking is sickening, everyone has their own habits and that's perfectly fine but me I'm quite happy with plain old water and orange juice.

You say I don't want work when right now Retail is my main search priority, but given the chance I'd take something as low as garbage disposal i don't care as long as I'm busy and I get paid.

And if I don't know something exists like Crisis Loans how do you expect me to apply for them? Think before you post.
I will check out the Budgeting loan for definite just because I couldn't go on Wednesday doesn't mean I wouldn't like to organise another interview with them myself which I'd be happy to.

And don't bring Africa in this either because I guarantee you've just been on your backside and seen all the charity ads on tv, when I volunteered for a year with a charity I requested to be able to go there for a few months to help out with their program and I did, I know exactly what it's like over there and it doesn't justify my situation or anyone elses, everybody is in different situations good or bad an handle them differently just because one problem is worse than another doesn't mean that it's nothing to worry about.

I also made a plan for my family for the amount to pay people and have enough left to live on with what they all earn and so far it's worked perfectly and they are getting back on their feet.

And it still is sick to ask me to sell things that are memories of my family including my grandmother who as I repeat passed away.
If you was in a bad situation in heavy debt of some kind and the only way to get out of it would be to sell your most treasured item from your mother your father or your boyfriend/girlfriend or wife/husband and you could get £1million for selling that item if you sold it you have no heart and no morals whatsoever.

Absolute rubbish - I pawned my engagement ring when I was 18 and it was only out of my possession for a month!

I hope you're not expecting anybody on here to send you money because that's rightly frowned on by MSE.

And I will repeat I just lost my Grandad less than 8 weeks ago.

When you are on benefits you have to play by the rules, you had the means to do so and chose not to.

I have heart but I also have an earthly body that needs fed, watered, clothed and housed.

If you get sanctioned for not attending the interview then I wouldn't come back for sympathy.
  • OP

short of people sending you pms with offers of fivers by paypal, what more do you want people to say?

There is no miracle about to appear.
  • You sold your engagement ring? Even though you could buy it back if I was your other half I'd be pretty damn angry and even still if you discussed it with them I'd still be angry.

You just assume I have Cash Converters nearby I don't, the nearest I have to that is a place that takes in any of your gold items and I don't have any kind of gold jewelery, and seriously where the heck are you getting the idea I'd ask MSE to send me money? If I can ask personal friends and family and not get as much as £5 for one day then I'm not going to ask strangers off the Internet that I've never even met once thas really beyond any form of logic get a grip on reality.

I should just bend to the rules why because they are just there? It automatically makes them right does it? If all of the rules they set were 100% out of decency and not corrupt then there wouldn't be need for places like CAB and it's because of some of the corrupt farce that CAB exist and are able to help people in these situations.

This is supposed to be a grown up and bit more mature forum and I'm sorry but you neither of you even deserve to post here you're suppose to give people help and advice and then let them take it on board and deal with the problem they have, not pick out faults with the person and slander their own beliefs.
  • If your family are getting back on their feet due to you sorting out a payment plan on their behalf then they can show their gratitude and lend you that fiver or given you a lift to the job interview.

I can't help thinking that the JC expected you to still have some of your carers left over and didn't believe you had given it all away to family members to pay outstanding debts and that is why they were less than helpful and did not mention food banks and budgeting loans.
