Well I have just been doing a car insurance search as mine is due beginning of January and wasn't happy with my renewal price as it has gone up despite having an extra years NCD and I have just halved it saving £350 a year!!!!
I knew Mr T was taking the pee with his renewal quote, I know I have just changed my car but it is till a 10 year old car worth about a grand not a flipping sports car!!
Just goes to show how much money people waste by not shopping around, I think I am going to look at my contents insurance now and see how much hes overcharging for that.£23366/ £39206.92 DFD Nov 20160 -

I'm in, if you'll have me?
have just read the entire thread and I love the ethos of this challenge.
You are all so inspirational, and I'm still awaiting credit card statements to get an exact figure on which I need to work, but think it will be nearing £10k.
Have done a monthly budget with what I've got so far but this challenge will give me a realistic goal within which to frame the debt-busting bonaza!!x0 -

Hey y'all - I've been suffering from pretty bad abdominal pains since the beginning of December and after a visit to A&E today, the doc thinks that I have gallstones (but will have to be confirmed via ultrasound). After doing quite a bit of research since I got back on the tinternet, I have summarised that my diet and lifestyle needs to change dramatically if I am to manage this situation without surgery. A yo yo dieter since a very early age, my relationship with food is not good. I'm either 'on a diet' meaning eating very little or no fat or 'off a diet' eating fat without counting and with no control (think pizzas, takeaways, high fat sauces etc) As such, I've been left with a weight problem which fluctuates year on year by about 2-3 stones and now, gallstones, pending a formal diagnosis. So....looks like I have to ditch the following foods and beverages:
- high fat dairy - milk, eggs, cheese, cream, mayo
- fatty meats - red meat, pork (although I'm thinking the very lean pork and mince will be ok - the ones under 5% fat?)
- sweets, pastries, crisps, cakes etc
- pizzas and takeaways
- alcohol
- fizzy pop/soda
- refined foods including white bread, crackers etc
- some vegetables - cauliflower, sprouts, cabbage
- some fruit - mostly citrus - oranges and grapefruit
Which leaves not very much at all!
I'm really trying to have positive thoughts about this because at the end of the day it's for my health but I'm sad that there are going to be so many restrictions on my diet. I'm also cancelling New Years Day out as I am suffering from quite a bad attack at the moment and I don't want to be feeling ill when I'm out the house. I knew my yo-yo dieting would come back to bite me at some point and it seems that it has now happened : ( On a more positive note, I'm going to save a fortune on chicken kebabs, wine and meat at the supermarket!!! LOL
Does anyone have any experience of gallstones and diet to avoid gallstone attacks? I would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Just a wee note to add - I do follow a reasonably healthy diet already, eat lots of wholemeal bread, fruit and veg, salads and use olive oil and make lots of soup with pulses. It's just when I'm not dieting I allow extras to sneak into my diet!2019 goal

There's quite a lot online regarding fat free diets for gallstones, I know you can make quite a nice fat free sponge, for example.
Good luck!

Hi Newyork dreams
i know where you are coming from
i had a gall stone attack where the gall stone got stuck extremely uncomfortable and painful. i landed up in hospital for 4 days just a week before going on holiday to the USA i still went the ins co where OK about it as long as i followed the doc's advice
from my experience a normal diet low in fats and cholesterol is best way to go. As always keep it in moderation, but you do not have to give them up totally . Speak to GP get him to refer you a dietitian they should all the dietary info you require and also if you have a slimming world near by they can send on a free 12 week referral .
As for surgery i had mine removed after i came back from holiday and have not had any problems since, apart from not being able to eat too much fatty foods which is a good thing and that was 3 years ago come may.debt free as of 1/10/2014 and loving it :j
All done using YNAB and Bank tree.:cool:0 -

Oh honey thats not good if you are in a lot of pain.
I think we all need to follow a more healthy eating plan so we will stick with you during this.
You know we are here for help or just to have a wee chinwag you know.
I think definately get referred to a dietician they can let you know what to eat & what not too.
