I can't go under it, I can't go over it...I'll have to go through it....Part 2

  • I think I may have broken my little finger yesterday...I nearly fell down the stairs at the car park but managed to grab hold of the rail and stopped myself but also hit my little finger at the same time. It was sore but today the end bit from my knuckle up is sore and swollen. If it is broken there's nothing that can be done anyway so will see how it goes.

Need to nip to the Doctors today and put in a prescription for DH and dig out the company medical stuff for him as his problem from last year has come back again.

Checked the online banking and duly updated my spreadsheet. There are a few things that need to come out still but all the bills are paid so that's a good thing; the things to come out are things like DS's fun lunch day at school, DH's travel, petrol, food, DD's Rainbows, DS's Climbing Club etc....

So looking forward to next week, the kids go back to school and I go back to work and cleaning. Normality returns :)

Climbing club for DS tomorrow so will need to get some money out today for that, will take a flask of tea though as their tea is very expensive and not very nice.

Tried to do the food shop yesterday but we've been having internet problems so didn't manage to finish it. Will try again this morning.

Now I need some advice with regard to the credit cards. At present my aim is to get rid of the Virgin one by overpaying it as it is at a low amount. Do I carry on making slight overpayments on the Barclaycard or do I make the minimum payment on that and just overpay more on the Virgin card?? Dilemma!

morning purple.. ohn o! rubbish about your finger. hope the swelling goes down.

regarding you cards... this is personally what i would do...i would try and clear the virgin card as-ap. i know people say clear the highest interest first BUT im of the opinion not only it is it satisfying that you've cleared a debt (how ever small it is still a £0 at the end of the day) and then can put all the extra money on to your barclay card.
like is ay thats just what i would personally do and i know alot of avid MSEs will be spitting their cereal out on to the screen. x

  • Ouch to the finger!:(

Keep an eye on it ... they do sometimes strap them to the next one so it might need something like this done.

You've reminded me that I need to take money out today as getting my hair cut at the start of next week (1st time since errrrr last March?) - so thanks!:)

  • Thanks...I have put two plasters around it to try and keep it immobile. I can't have a broken finger, it's not allowed....I broke my wrist last year same side lol

I definitely am going to get rid of the Virgin card as it is the lowest owed but I'm unsure as to whether I just pay the minimum on the Barclaycard until the Virgin has gone or to just slightly overpay the Barclaycard and then pay more on it once the Virgin one has gone??

id keep over paying on both if you can then at leats you are making a dent in your barclay card at the same time.

  • Ouch to the finger, hope its not broken and gets bette3r soon, have a good day.
  • Morning,

Ouch to the finger.....Hope it isn't broken.

I personally would kill off the Virgin card asap and do the minimum on the other card.

I think the boost of closing the Virgin card will give you the incentive to keep going. If you spread your payments too thinly by over-paying both at the same time you may feel like it is going down too slowly.

I guess it all depends on how much you can throw at in each month. If you can kill off the Virgin card in 2-3 months at the same time as over paying the other card then that would work. but any longer and you might lose your enthusiam.

The bit I hate is the rest of the month after I have paid off a load and I then have to wait ages before I can make any more payments.

Either way, you are doing great. Keep going xxxx
  • Good morning and happy Sunday :)

DH has gone out on his bike, he's got a new route set up on his phone app thingy and has gone to try it out :D

I am trying to be a bit more organised this year. I've restarted with the finances and have started to update the credit cards on my spreadsheet and can now see the £670 and where I have put that it has any overpayments.

The Barclaycard had a bit of a hammering yesterday, DH needed some new trainers and considering he hadn't bought any for two years I couldn't really say no...they were at a leaking stage :o so £63 to go on there over the next few days.

We still have money in the current account, granted it is OD money but its still there :)

Back to normalish next week, DH has a full week at work, the kids have an Inset Day on Monday but are at school the rest of the week; I'm back at work and cleaning again. Cleaning money this week will be put aside towards my car service and hopefully won't be needed to be dipped in.

Plans for this week are like this:

Meal plan for the week - top up shop if needed
Walk with the kids to school and back
    Doctors for DH's prescription
    Work - Boo!!!!
    Cleaning jobs
    Alcohol reduction during the week
    Job hunting again
    Housework
    Keep check on finances
    NSD's needed
Keep to £20 personal spending limit for the week

I'm feeling very positive about this year and will do anything I can to ensure that we are in a better position.

With the meal planning, I tried twice to do an online shop and twice it didn't work so have given up this time and will try again once DH has been paid on the 15th...I am aiming to get it to every fortnight rather than every month and cut it down so all is not lost.

Off to catch up on some diaries x
  • Morning Purple

Sounds like you have a great plan for 2013. I wish I could walk the kiddies to school but we are 2 miles away down a country lane where cars drive abit too fast.

It will be nice to get back into the routine of things, I have gotten into a terrible habit of not going to bed till midnight. Thats going to kill me next week when I need to be up super early.

Hope work isn't too painful next week, the first week back is always hard.

    Enjoy your sunday x
