That's ASDA Price

TheImportanceOfBeingIdle
Not so long ago the missus bought young Idle a toy boat from ASDA. This boat was battery operated and designed to be used in the bath. So she gets it home and I stick a couple of brand new batteries in it. I play with it in the bath just to make sure it works and all is well.................. until today.
Young Idle played with the boat last night and today I find a small odd looking stain in the bath. Look around and notice another small stain where the boat is. I lift up the boat and oh look, it's leaking battery acid.

I'm fumin. I ring ASDA up and get some stuck up wench that aint too happy about being in work this early in the morning. Well !!!!!! !!!!!!!! to her. I explain the problem and get a
'Oh. It's the first time I've heard of this. Can I take some details from you?'
I then give her my name and address
'Thankyou. How much was it?'
'It was a couple of quid but that aint the point.'
'Don't worry I'll send out a letter of apology. A good will gesture and return the price of the item'
'Hang on love. I don't want a letter of apology or a good will gesture. I want to know why the f**k ASDA is selling toys that are dangerous'
'I'll pass it onto my manager and report it to the store'
'How about you tell your suppliers in the far east to stop making shoddy goods for pittence? What good is reporting it to a manager going to do? Would it not be wise to recall these and tell the buyers that you made a mistake? Because if my son develops anything as a result of this then I'm going to be more than happy to shaft ASDA in the courts'
'Well there's nothing more I can do apart from report it to the management and send you the good will gesture'
I'm speechless. Not an ounce of concern shown. Maybe I should have told her my son has been badly burned by the acid.
P.s. Edited to comply with the swear filter. Read the unedited version on NP
Edited cos the second picture is too big and I can't be @r$ed making it smaller

This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down

Not nice.
I'm gonna risk you tearing into me...isnt it the batteries you put in there that are at fault?"Life is like a game of cards. No. The batteries were brand new. Water has got into the supposedly sealed compartment and caused the batteries to leak. This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0 -
That is terrible! Your poor son! Hope he is ok! I would phone the doctors and ask some advice just in case!

If, as certainly appears to be the case, ASDA are selling a potentially dangerous toy, then you should report it, both to ASDA Head Office and to the local Trading Standards Office.
I wouldn't fancy the idea of any child of mine being exposed to the possibility of 'licking' battery acid.
ASDA should launch a product recall if the toy is potentially dangerous.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Sorry, but what was the young lady supposed to do. It wasn't her fault that the toy was faulty. If we want "the far east to stop making shoddy goods", we should be prepared to pay more for our goods.
However I am sorry that this has caused you some concern over your childs health and I am sure that if there hasn't been any reaction to the battery leakage yet there probably wont be.
As far as I can see the lady did the best she could. If it was a little unfeeling, it was a saturday she was probably overworked and underpaid.Loving the dtd thread. x0 -

What was she supposed to do? As much as she could. Have you ever tried digesting battery fluid? Moreso have you seen a 2 year old digest battery fluid? It aint some petty little thing that can be sorted with a good will gesture and a couple of quid back for the price of the toy. I couldn't give a sh!te about that. Irrelevant of what day of the week it is (oh and it was today I rang) or what time of the day it is customer service is exactly that. CUSTOMER SERVICE. She sounded as if she couldn't have cared less. THAT is what aggravated me. If she had sounded !!!!!! off and stressed out and had lost her temper but still insisted that she would raise this matter with the necessary people as soon as then I wouldn't have been bothered by her attitude. This country is called Great Britain. Just wondering does the toy have a CE mark on it ?Nothing to see here, move along.0

Sorry ...but she was representing Asda, If she didn't know how to deal with it or make the customer feel like he is taken seriously then she should either log the call and say that she will get someone to call him back or get someone to speak to him straightaway! - She showed no concern for the poor child!
I have had a battery leak on my hand and it does burn! it depends on the sensitivity and vulnerability of your skin!!
It reminds me of a time in Sainsburys cafe, I had eaten half of my meal when I came accross a fly in my salad!! I am pregnant, and have trouble keeping food down as it is! I went and complained (I was sick!) the 'manager' shrugged his shoulders and just looked embarassed! He didn't know what to do!?Angel
