I would still complain. Also if you put vaseline on the redness it helps it to heal quciker and stops the sting.

  • Hi everyone,

I had my eyebrows waxed with Estee Lauder in their brow bar. They were very professional and whats more, the price was £15 but was redeemable with any purchase! If you go on the estee lauder website www.esteelauder.co.uk and click on "special events" and then click on "Brow bar" on the left it will have all the details on screen. I have to say my eyebrows looked lovely and shaped the lady was nice and she took nearly one hour shaping them, I mean she was really precise, I can't guarantee that every brow bar will be the same but my experience was great so hopefully they should all be the same. There is also one listed in chester (for harryharp).
    I hope this helps.;)
  • Another tip, the lady in the Estee Lauder brow bar after waxing my eyebrows, put Aloe vera gel on them to soothe them. It was so soothing and their was hardly any redness left. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the 2 tips Sunshine- will give Estee Lauder a go next time I need to buy something there! I keep hearing how good their foundation is so might do that next time I need to buy some.

It does sound like the wax may have been too hot. Or you could have had a reaction to the wax itself. Or maybe she didn't support the skin enough when removing the wax strip, although this would more likely cause bruising.

When I did my training in beauty therapy about 10 years ago, we were trained to test the wax on the inside of our wrists before using it on the client. This was to check the temperature.

I wouldn't advice putting any heavy creams on the area, as the skin round the eyes is thin and sensitive. Heavy creams on the eye area can cause puffiness.

Maybe some tea tree on the area would help, or as someone mentioned aloe vera would probably sooth it.
If the skin is flaky or scabbing don't pick it, or try and remove the dry skin. This would be more likely to leave you with marks once its healed.

I'd definitely go back and show them whats happened. It shouldn't have happened. With any luck your get either a refund or a free treatment or something.

Thanks for the advice Trace. The flaky skin has come off now, so it looks better but there are still red marks. I will go anyway and see what they say- would be nice to get a free treatment or something but I'm not holding my breath.

Just an update in case anyone's interested in the salon's response....
I went in there today and finally got to see the manager after waiting for ages, and essentially they're not admitting any responsibility- there was no apology or offer of refund or anything like that. When I mentioned about the possibility of the wax being too hot, she just said that they keep the wax at 'no. 3' (whatever that means), which is the correct temperature. She then just gave me some sample sizes of moisturising cream to put on it to 'help it heal'.
The thing is though, it's actually pretty much healed already, it's just that there's a pretty pronounced red mark where the scab used to be, and it looks like scar tissue is beginning to form....so basically I'm still not happy, both with the salon's response, and also I'm still worried about scars being left despite the reassurances in the posts above! Time will tell I suppose.

Glad you are on the mend!

I have had my eyebrows waxed for years, never had a problem. Not had them done at Debenhams though....tend to stick to separate beauty salons.

Ive used different salons for eyebrow waxing and cant beleive the difference. I have now found one that is the least painful and the redness doesnt last that long and luckily its my nearest. I usually book it for late afternoon and must admit I dont go out anywhere else for the rest of the day - I have my upper lip done as well and can look very strange for a couple of hours.

I also experienced what you have described and beleive it was because the wax was too hot, needless to say Ive not been back.
  • I am a beauty therapist and that is not a normal reaction.Def go back and complain you must have some kind of treatment free or and/or your money back. You shouldnt have to pay £10 to have your skin ripped off!:o
