Is it worth letting them grow a bit first to get a good shape?

No not really for threading they can be short!

    Thanks for the explanation.
It sounds even more complicated than waxing , hard to believe it is cheaper !
I don't like the sound of the horror stories ...maybe I'll stay hairy!!

Its not complicated thats why its cheap!

I totally agree!- I saw professional ladies threading in India when I was there is December- military precision and yes, when they finish, the boss comes in and inspects... then proceeds to improve the already perfect job. I was mesmerized seeing them doing it with the thread between their teeth and moving their heads forwards and backwards while catching the tiny hairs with the cotton thread... I want to have it done, but I won't go into one of the plush salons that claim to do threading because I have seen the real thing and I know only ladies from the Indian/asian areas will do it right...and at the right price. I saw them doing it on the upper lip as well (to an incredibly beautiful indian girl, it must have hurt, but boy, she endured it!)
And did I mention I got a hour and a half-long pedicure, with a deep feet/ankles/leg massage (up to the knees), including polish for ...the equivalent of 2 and a half -3 quid???!!!!

OK, I am going to take the plunge. Does anyone know anywhere in Bristol that does threading, reasonably close to the city centre but not Debenhams?

I've got an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed for the first time, the appointments 13 days away, she told me to let my eye brows grow which I have done sort of for the past 2 weeks. Now it's driving me mad and I feel horrible. How long do they actually need to be? I'm tempted to go and buy a hair lightening kit from boots today to lighten the stray hairs...

I've been trying to let them grow a bit between waxings, not for length reasons, but because, with the random tweezing I was doing before, they were all growing at different stages.........by leaving them for a bit, you give all the hairs a chance to grow through, then get the whole lot waxed off at the same time and a longer lasting clean result IYSWIM!! Can't you get your appointment brought forward a week, it doesn't take very long, they should be able to fit you in surely?

for the wax to be able to grip the hair, it really needs to be at least 2mm long, and for most people this is a months growth

if you are used to plucking on a daily basis, then i dont think waxing is the thing for you, as you do have to put up with a bit of stray regrowth, between sessions - however the more sessions you have, over time, the hair growth does slow down, and not be so noticeable (or you just get used the having messy brows as the month draws on)

just an aside, its best to keep track of your cycle, as waxing at TOTM can be very painful - i know its only a few hairs, but by jigger you know if youre due on or not, as the pain is so much worse

  • I always used Tweezerman tweezers, until a new girl at work started and threaded my brows and upper lip for free :-)
Then I watched a Youtube video, and I've taught myself now
My brows are very fair/invisible so I have to use a pencil to colour them in - I use the Rimmel one

Totally agree with that statement! I stupidly walzed into a salon and thought I'd treat myself...on a whim...its what I do TOTM. Never before has threading been so painful! And I get it done every few months so I am used to it! I had to stop early! Not good! Lesson learnt:rolleyes::rotfl:

Sorry, I missed this at the time, so if it's not too late, in Cabot Circus there is a little place on the top floor which does this. Can't remember what it costs, I don't think they do appointments, I just wandered in.

Although thinking about it, back in August that place wasn't there because Cabot Circus wasn't open, was it? Or has it been open over a year? I guess it has, doesn't time fly ...
