I hope I don't come across as rude as this is a geniune question... if you know so little about smart TVs why do you want one? What's the draw? Why a smart one and not a normal one?Hi. It's not me, its the husband. He likes new technology & loves his tv - and I always say if you want to know anything at all, this forum is the place to ask because you lot know about everything!
If you never ask then you never know

OK-ask him what he wants to do with his smart TV, that he can't do with the existing one?No free lunch, and no free laptop

Well the main reason for this is that we have a big TV - about 6 yrs old now, that's using a hell of a lot of power, and these new ones use far less. We're gradually replacing the major appliances in the house with new more energy efficient ones, and the tv is next in the queue.
Plus he likes to watch youtube (bike and car stuff
) and I think you can do that on these tvs. 0 -
OK, I'd like you to look at the back of your TV and tell us how much power your TV is using - your husband seems convinced it's a guzzler so let's see.
Satellite - NO. Unless you're buying a TV with a Freesat tuner built in, you can't plug a satellite cable into it. Not very many Freesat TVs around. Nothing to do with Smart TVs.
Smart TVs just connect to the internet, so watching YouTube videos is a good example of what you can do with them.
I hope your husband isn't planning to record FROM the TV ONTO his VCR!0 -
Samsung smart tv he wants has freesat. Our tv uses 203W and the samsung uses 73W.0

I wouldn't call 203w a hell of a lot of power at all. My 50" uses 225. Sure, they've gone down now, and they'll have better features and PQ than a 6 yr old set, but it'll take years and years to get that saving back. Not a good reason to change TV, but you've got many better ones.0

Question from hubby - see these new Smart tvs, we're looking at a Samsung with built in freeview and freesat - can you connect a video recorder to it via a SCART socket? Have they got SCARTs ? Or if not, then how do you do it?
We have the new 3d tv by samsung & to be honest its just a gimmick we should if stayed with the original hdtv 50' we had
But back to your question to the old player vcr you can use rgb cable if your vcr supports it or our samsung has 1 scart lead connection depend on samsung model number of the tv
This will show you in specs
Thanks
