Finished another room yesterday - our little downstairs bathroom was painted, and papered with brighton seaside wallpaper ( google it - just makes me smile) and new towels (£4 from matalan) new mirrored cabinet (from homebase in sale) and glass shelf from ikea. Needs a couple of seaside things on the shelf, but the total came in at less than £100. The big bathroom is next and have not got a clue what to do with the lovely green and pink border tiles in that room...

OH is off on the final day of his camera course that was cancelled months ago - he can't be bothered, but it was all paid for so might as well. He'd rather be painting.:rotfl: I am heading to the shops for a rake around myself.

thanks, the rest of the house is much more traditional, but reckon we can get away with a funky wee bathroom. And found another 3 boxes to unpack that were full of junk - i mean treasures so have some things to decorate the shelf without buying more.

Got followed by the police yesterday - was a bit lost and made a stupid error by doing a right turn when i shouldn't. They followed me for another 2 streets then pulled me over and threatened me with a £50 fine. I pleaded ignorance - i mean, if i had known i would not have done that with in full view of them and they let me off - after the month i have had i think i would have burst into tears if they had charged me.

anyway, overpaid another £139.94 to mortgage today which barely makes a dent anymore. We have used more than half our savings and still have a few major purchases to make - new radiators went in yesterday so have heat now. Still need a dining table, new bathroom, greenhouse, maybe a bigger shed and wardrobe doors. Loads of painting still to be done too. Hall getting stripped this week.

Morning. I think it's really impressive you are overpaying anything when you've just moved! It's such a money pit moving house!

oh you are so right - a money pit is all it is. We really want it as nice as possible and feel very lucky to be in a position to get things quickly instead of having to do rooms up slowly as always happened before when we moved house. I know once it settles down we won't be decorating again for a few years. It has been a huge help having my dad to help - he has just retired so was keen for a project and can do just about anything, he has saved us a fortune (although I do worry he has plans for moving in when he gets old :rotfl:)

Anyway, woke up very early this morning excited that it is payday for both of us. Just my basic wage for me cos i been off sick, but OH has a real wage at last  After paying off pesky credit card and transfering money to savings for holiday next month I have £500 left to overpay...bringing to mortgage down to under £100000:T. The standing order for september will be next week and bring it down further

And the daily interest is now £6.89, so that is down too.

    Congratulations, great barrier broken :T:T:T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

That must feel like a very satisfactory milestone! Congrats!

  • it is a nice milestone, but we only had it that high for a month, so didn't really have too long to sit with a mortgage of over 100,000

The hall is taking ages - there is about 5 layers of paper under the first layer. Lots of brown varnish to be glossed white and new doors upstairs. I much prefer the shopping part of decorating, rather than the hard work part :rotfl:

Got some free fish for tea on friday, and been invited to family supper tonight so not much spent on food this weekend. Got a coupan for sainsburys so will get some basics there along with my nectar card and see how much i can get for free...

  • paid £888.19 today as a standing order for mortgage - will not be that high every month, but a good big chunk to throw at it. Now this will be a frugal month. However, i am working full time the next 2 weeks giving me lots of overtime and less chance to spend. Packed lunches to help the NO spend days.

Decided to go back to swimming - we are paying every month for gym subs and have hardly used it this year. If i don't get my money's worth this month, then i am cancelling

  • still scraping off paper from the hall - it is a thankless task. Even the steamer is struggling with all the layers.

working full time this week and living off cheap suppers and packed lunches - had a few NSD so quite pleased with that. Have had to rein in my dad who keeps appearing with things he thinks we need. The final straw was when he decided to go pick up 5 new white doors for upstairs - at a cost of £40 each, cos they would look nicer than the old wooden ones, so gave him a quick lesson on the differance between a want and a need....;)
