Glad you're settling in well!
You seem to have achieved so much in a very short period of time.
I noticed you saying you didn't like the blue kitchen. Could you change the doors in the kitchen, rather than replacing the kitchen, or paint the doors that are in there?

Could you just paint your kitchen cupboards and tiles for now? We did when we moved into one of our places. OK it wasn't a posh look but defo better than what was there beforehand!!Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

had both tonsils out yesterday and got home at 9 pm, where i had a rough night with vomiting and pain. Couldn't keep the painkillers down and the codiene then made me sick when i did manage them. Forget toast and crisps - have managed mashed up banana and ice cream. I know I will have to try as can feel the scabs in my throat - yuk! But the surgeon said both looked regular shape, just have to wait for pathology now.
Been thinking about the kitchen - I did think of paint or just replacing doors. TBH the blue is not the problem, quite like the colour and once we tone down the yellow varnished roof, i think it will look better. The problem is the dishwasher and oven are integrated and about 20 years old so both need replaced. Also tiles are horrible and some of the door facings are faded and scratched. So might be less hassle just to get a cheap kitchen. We have put it down as last on our list.
2 carpets in bedrooms are laid, and as they were roll ends we have lots left over to either sell or give away. But cutters reckon i might have enoigh to do the hall and stairs with next week when the other 2 arrive :j. Badly need stairs carpeted - i slipped on the faded tread at the weekend and tumbled down the last 3 stairs - ouch.
Our bedroom is finished, new bed looks great, need new doors for the wardrobe and finish unpacking clothes, son's bedroom just needs some shelves and it is finished. Livingroom has been painted ready to paper and fireplace ripped out by dad who is laying new tiles today. Daughters room next as her carpet comes on monday and then we are having a rest.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

Yuk tonsils out - I still remember it from my childhood! Then, they only let you eat icecream and jelly. I can see why they have changed that advice but it didnt do me any harm so I think you just just get a big tub of ben & j's and make yourself happy :idea:Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

my throat is killing me, but have been trying to eat scratchy things to get rid of scabs and it did seem to ease this afternoon, but back with a vengance tonight. OH and son have colds so trying to avoid them as that s the last thing i need right now.
living room papered and painted, dad laid new hearth for fireplace - was looking at proper granite ones for £300, but he has tiled it with marble floor tiles on sale at £9 a box. Plumber came back today and moved a couple of pipes for new radiators - dad had cut out hatches for him to get under floorboards so that should save us an hour of plumbers time. My dad is brillant - not much he cannot do, but he is annonying OH slightly who keeps muttering it is Our house and not His...There is a lovely furniture shop nearby that recycles old pews and things and have seen a lovely mantelpiece there that looks so much better than the one i painted.
We had bought the wallpaper in sale, £18 a roll instead of £36 and got paint and some cushions too. As we had one roll left over to take back i looked up receipt and we had not been charged for the paper at all :j. Mum did suggest we take it back and try for credit note, but i think that is taking moneysaving too far. Will buy matching lampshade and throw from there too to alleviate the guilt.
Finally a NSD, and 3 bags of clothes taken to charity shop. trying to sell a fridge freezer and excercise bike on facebay, but no takers so far - will reduce price tomorrow just to get rid of them. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

Hope your throat is feeling a bit better today.
You are doing brilliantly with your house. I am with your mum take the wallpaper back get a credit note and use it towards your throw and lampshade. Maybe I'm just a bad person0 -
Ixia - i am shocked at you... Finally got my new mortgage online and was able to pay £15 off it yesterday. Not sure whether to get rid of the 33k one first or the other 65k - doesn't really make any differance, but think i will attack the largest one first and the little one can be coming down gradually whilst we do that.
Throat still sore :-( but got lovely bunch of flowers from work collegues. I am missing work a bit, but have plenty here to do. Got the fireplace finished today and scraped daughters room as that needs painted and papered before carpets arrive on monday.. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

felt a bit better today after being sick all night, and bought a gorgous vintage shelf from the furniture place - not cheap, but don't mind having a statement piece in each room and this almost finishes off our bedroom. just need a pair of sliding doors for the wardrobe and some shelving inside. Was my freinds 40th birthday and got him a voucher for a great resturant, could not resist and had lunch there, but only £15 as not managing to eat much. Throat got awful sore and OH went round to birthday BBQ without me as not feeling up to it. Just want to feel well again!
Sold our fridge freezer for £20 this morning - cheeky git wanted me to deliver it 10 miles away...aye, that will be right, and do your ironing whilst I am there? He got a bargain, so made him come and collect it. Still, I needed the space so am happy enough to get rid of it. Gave the cash to OH to buy more paint with, but he has a cheque for £103 that i get to overpay next week :T. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

had to go to DIY store to return piece we didn't need for the fireplace, but saw a beautiful mantlepiece when we were there for £199. had repainted the old one, but it had not turned out as well as we thought, so decided to splash the cash and now have a wow fireplace. Still saved money as hearth and background bit was tiled for next to nothing and the fire is the original.
Got lots of little jobs done today - new lightswitches, double electric sockets to replace the single ones and some mirrors put up. Carpets for last bedroom and living room arrive tomorrow and then i can finish unpacking. Will be great to live in a home and not a building site.
Throat and ears are still painfulreally thought i would be getting better by now. Have taken the strong painkillers today and finally pain has settled, but have a weird floaty feeling i don't like.
