thank you for your replies. it is always nice to know i am not rambling to myself. My daughter has a bone tumour in her leg, after various tests and scans the doctors are confident it is not malignant although it will need removed this is not urgent and she should be able to finish her contract then come home as planned over winter and have surgery here.

There is nothing more scary than having a child (even a 24 year old) sobbing on the phone from 16000 miles away telling you she has a tumour. Forget bank balances, new homes and any other stress. I was on a plane the next day to sit in a spanish hospital just to be with her. I have not added up the cost of flights, hotels and private transfers (in a vain attempt to reduce the infection risk a week after having a chunk of my immune system cut off - not quite the peaceful recovery I had intended). it is only money and really does not matter. I am still waiting for my own biopsy results - but no news is good news on that front.

I am going back to work tomorrow to get some peace and quiet! After a month away i need the normality of it all. And will get back on track with saving - another £30 in coins paid to the mortgage today.

Must have been a worrying time for you all, glad it's not malignant but you are so right at times like this money is the furthest thing from your mind.

thank you both for the replies. Daughter is fine - gutted that she needs an operation but we are all celebrating that it is not malignant and don't care about op so that is hard for her. I think she really just wants to come home now, but as she would have to wait for a referral here for a few weeks there is no point and she would be better finishing her contract in spain - the whole family are going out there again in october for her birthday so have advised her to at least stay for that.

I did not manage to get to work on monday - woke up and immediately fell asleep again then slept all day - i think the stress, and missed sleep all caught up with me. Went back yesterday and it was nice to see everyone again. Throat is still sore, but eating better - in fact could not stop eating. Have lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and whilst i could easily afford to lose that, I think i just look ill with it. So not a nsd as shelled out on a massive tuna sandwich, then came home and scoffed crisps and chocolate along with an apple pie my mum brought us. :rotfl:

Got 2 calls from my 2nd job looking for me to work, but don't feel able to this week. Did manage to get an extra hour overtime tomorrow.

today i did something nice for someone. i am short of wardrobe space and decided to give my shoes i bought in vegas away. they are goergous, but high heels and me don't go well. It would break my heart to leave them sitting in their box and never being worn again. I know one of my workmates lusted after them so took them to work and they fitted her, so gave them to her. She says she feels like Cinderella and i am so pleased for her.

And karma must have come round 'cos when i got home there is a cheque for £590.63 that we paid in error to last mortgage and has been paid back - was not expecting that. :T

thank you Tilly - it is good to give sometimes to offset feeling like a total miser when going round supermarkets counting pennies. I notice you often give to food banks so guess it is the same for you.

Long skype chat yesterday with my girl, her leg is still hurting, but she is feeling much more positive and hopes to finish her contract now before coming home. She got a tour of the new house.

Did some rounding up and was refunded some cash for some bedside cabinets i ended up returning so was able to pay £69.09 off mortgage today - it really is drips at the moment as still need so much for new house. Hoping to sell some old units this evening for £35 so might fund a pub supper tonight.

Sadly the daily interest charged is double what it was before the move so despite paying £135 extra i have only managed to knock off £20 off the balance this month. Oh well, if I can aim for being interest neutral every month i guess it will all help in the long run.
