almost all packed up and ready to go tomorrow, feeling a bit emotional about it all - just seeing all our life in boxes. Had a wander round the shops today and looked at curtains and wallpaper, but until we are in it is a bit hard to choose colours. Did see a nice one from Laura ashley that had 50% then another 20 % off, so picked up 5 rolls for the price of 2. They will do for spare room or maybe bathroom.

welcome from our new house. We have been transported to the 1980s and are living with pink carpets and green wallpaper with dado rails. It still feels like home however!

Move went very well although i am still aching. OH went off to pick up 7 ton van first thing in the morning and mum and me went around cleaning. Van arrived back at 9.15 and we had it loaded up by 10.30am and then had to wait till 11.30am to pick up keys of new place. Unloading took a bit longer, as it was a bungalow and now we have stairs, but most boxes are in the right rooms.

Got an old kitchen which is livable- hate the bathroom and really want to chabge it, but the rest is just carpets and decorating. It costs a fortune everytime I nip to dIY shop, but have the bulk of it bought now. We were going to carfest this weekend, but as I have my operation booked for tuesday we have decided to crack on and get the bedrooms done in case I want my bed next week. Carpets coming on monday, so we have scrapped the old paper off two rooms, and will gloss all the white today and get papered over the weekend.

Nationwide have taken my account off the online banking thing, so cannot see my balance, and have taken the old amount from the direct debit - so figures not right, but don't think I will be overpaying very much soon. Plumber is coming today to check boiler and discuss moving and replacing some radiators.

thanks for all the good wishes. Have spent a wee fortune on this house this week. So far have bought 4 roll end carpets for about a third of the orginal price - but needed to fork out for a fitter as both OH and dad refuse to lay "proper" carpets. OH tried haggling with carpet shop today and got the grand sum of one carpet trim off - about £7 - despite spending over 1,500k. Must be a scottish company we are dealing with :rotfl:

Have spent a fair bit on wallpaper and paint - but just having feature walls so that saves a chunk and we are doing all the labour ourselves - so far we have scraped 2 bedrooms, painted and papered both and painted inside hall cupboard - OH is making up some shelves for it out of old table.

Have sold couple of bar stools that were left and our old washing machine on facebay. Also got a fridge to sell too. And made a complaint to building society about various issues that stressed us out arranging this mortgage and got a lovely phone call from area manager who offered £100 goodwill gesture to restore our confidence in them. Will take great delight in overpaying that straight into mortgage as soon as I can.

Plumber came round and said boiler should be ok for another couple of years, although the radiators need replaced it will not be as much as we budgeted for. Thats a huge relief. However, I am hating the blue kitchen and think it will have to go - anyone got any cheap ways to put in a new kitchen?

OH has chronic tennis elbow and it flared up yesterday with all the painting, so we took a day off and went shopping. Got new quilt covers in a sale and also curtains for bedroom, but when i got home they were huge. So managed to fit them in our living room where i was being quoted around £500 for made to measure curtains, ot £300 for blinds. These are lined, cream and not quite as full as they should be, but meet in the middle and were only £19 so will do for now.

We also have a green tiled fireplace with a horrible pine surround that would cost a fortune to rip out and replace. Someone told me about chalk paint - it is expensive, but paints nearly anything. So went off to the specialist place that stocks it and bought a couple of tins in the hope we can paint the surround and maybe the varnished wooden ceilings in the bathrooms and kitchen. Luckily we like the shabby chic look!

Went to farmers market yesterday and stocked up, then did some batch cooking to fill the freezer with stew and soup. Will do a pile of chilli today and a toad in the hole for tea. My freind came round to visit and took a housewarming gift - some tatties from her garden, so will have to get eating them.

Great savings on the curtains :)

It must be exciting being in your new home and making all your plans. Hope OH feels better soon.

He is fine, just gets pain in his elbow if he does too much, thanks.

Got the living room scraped today and spent £180 in DIY shop getting bits and pieces. But managed to sell an old unit for £25 and more batch cooking done. Gonna sit with my feet up and look at my bare walls now :rotfl:
