  • Hi Thought I'd drop by! That's such good news about your mortgage. The balance will still be a bit scary at first but you'll get back into the swing of it and think how worth it it will be when you move! :D Good luck. Hope everything goes to plan.

thank you both for reading my ramblings. Nephew is good, thanks, got home last night weighing just 4lbs 4 and 35 weeks gestation, but absolutely lovely, like a very skinny doll. We popped in today and ended up babysitting for 2 hours whilst his mum did some errands and we just sat and held him. I have never seen such a tiny baby before.

The balance thing was scary, but I have come to terms with it, we should have about 7-9k left over that can be overpaid back, although it will be an emergency fund as difficult to assess exactly what might needs done. We are both in good jobs now, quite secure with 2nd jobs we can pick up extra hours if needed. Health scare was almost 2 and half years ago and symptoms not any worse, so we don't have the same motivation we had initially when we thought I might have to give up work.

It will be nice to be in a "forever" home. And it would not have been possible without all those overpayments already made, so it is a step up, not back.

And a cheque for 18.86 from music magpie today to bank on monday :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Hey Kirsty
sounds like fab news on the forever house even if it does mean you have to hang around here a few more years! ;)

i just want to move now, as it is impossible to estimate how much spending we need to do at the moment. I am going to keep a note of how much we spend on new stuff though. Definately need carpets, and curtains, paint and wallpaper. New fireplace and cooker probably, not sure if we are going to need to replace the kitchen.

Also a new bed for OH and myself - our last one was huge, but we replaced it with a double bed to make our room look bigger, so will give that one to our son as we have only been sleeping in it for a few weeks. He is happy he is finally getting a double room, been sleeping in a single bed all his life and he is 23 now!

I bought 2 sets of duvet covers for him at half price at the weekend, so feel I have started. Also fallen in love with a wallpaper, but not able to buy it until I know how many rolls I need.

Have started to pack, just a few boxes at the moment, i did suggest getting professional removers in and my OH and dad just about blew a gasket - they are not paying for someone to lift a few boxes...fair enough, but it's been a few years since we last moved and have an awful lot more furniture than before.

paid in cheque from music magpie, and did some rounding up so was able to save another £60 into savings. My balance would have been just under 50k if we had not been selling. Sometime in the next 7 days it is going to double when we get 49k of overpayments back.

I am trying to ignore 2 very sweet cottages that have just gone on the market this week...we have not completed yet on our purchase as there is something lying in the roof space which we want removed before we buy. Once that is done we will be signed up.

Still doing adpoints and OH is fueling all the motors at his new job with his nectar card, have a money off voucher from sainsburys, but need to spend £60 - thats actually quite a challenge for me these days :rotfl: Used to spend over £100 every week and never thought anything of it. Was trying to empty cupboards but as it is just over 6 weeks away before moving date it is probably worth filling them again. I will take our piggybank change and use nectar points too and see how low i can get it.

had a read of the weekly email and got a deal on a vax hoover for the new house, orginal price 299 and with mse code got it for £94. I used to have a great hoover, but when it died just bought a cheap one from supermarket, as we have mainly wooden floors, but it is useless and falling apart. We definately want some carpets again in our new home so a new hoover will be worthwhile. Thanks :money: for that.

very good bargain, very happy with that (and like buying stuff for new house already). Tonight the cupboards are bare..cannot use my supermarket voucher until sunday, so found some chicken stew in freezer and half packet of dried chickpeas dated sept 2010 which should have made a good tea. however, pretty much inedible, so just had some toast and marmite instead. wonder what to have for tea tomorrow? better go and have a stock take...

OH working again today, there was an extra shift at my 2nd job i could have picked up this morning, but didn't. Felt guilty, but the house was filthy and needed a good tidy. Have started packing odd boxes and so it feels generally untidy, but at least it is clean now under the chaos if that makes sense? It is only me that bothers about it, OH and son will do stuff if i ask, but they would both happily live in muck.

Cash is very tight this month, have had a lot of odd bills to pay and still more to go. Had booked OH in for an expensive photography course for his birthday next week, he has not really got the time to do it, and was worried about paying the balance of the course. However, I was chatting to a freind's neighbour and she mentioned her hubby was looking for a boat engine - well, what did we happen to have in the shed? spare boat engine. Got £300 for it, which paid for the hoover and the camera course. :rotfl:
