In the last week they have managed to break a very special china pot because nobody was in and they threw it over a 6 foot side door onto concrete. Contacted them asking for compensation because of the way the parcel was delivered but they said they do not compensate for pottery, I said surely you should after what happened but they were not interested.

They lost the item above which sold on ebay for £94 but I'll only get £50 compensation if I'm lucky.

Sorry to hear about your experience but I'm afraid that no carrier takes much care with parcels and you have to pack accordingly. Fragile items like china and glass need to be packed very well because as you've found they are not covered by insurance - you are self insuring. Even if it was included they may have still refused to pay out as it is under insured - value £94 basic insurance £50.

The good news with carriers is that you are not too limited with size and weight so you can use a lot of padding to keep it safe. I regularly send glass bowls which are packed with bubble wrap inside a box. This is then put in a much larger box with screwed up newspaper between the two. A small item ends up in a very large box which can take a lot of abuse and stands a good chance of surviving even being thrown over a wall.

Someone on here once recommended taking your packed item and thinking whether you would be happy dropping it from chest height onto a concrete floor. If you are not sure it needs better packaging.

    Hi all

Does anyone know if there's an intermediary firm who specifically use DPD or TNT?

I will be using DPD/TNT from now on - been using UPS for 3 years but in the past two weeks they delivered a package without getting signed confirmation and leaving it by the recipient's door (I was lucky the receiver got home not long after they 'delivered' and he mentioned it was out in the open for anyone to take).

Now I have an even bigger issue as a package has been misrouted and somehow been delivered to some random address in France when it should've been delivered to Yorkshire. UPS are attempting to retrieve it from this address but haven't had any luck in 3 attempts and have opened an investigation (whatever that does). It's an expensive item and due to their negligence, I will not be using UPS again. Therefore, my alternative is DPD or TNT so if anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
  • I understand Shiply has mixed reviews. Personally I can not recommend them and would advise customers to beware. I used them over a year ago.

I was offered a quote by a shipping company via their site which I accepted and made a payment for. The company later significantly raised their price having misread my inventory and I cancelled the contract.

I submitted a claim to Shiply who agreed the courier was at fault having seen that my inventory was accurate at the time of posting. They sent me a credit note for the sum I had paid and refused to send a refund. Here is their reply:
    Thank you for your email.

At Shiply we provide a credit refund to your Shiply account only and this can be used within a period of 6 months as per the User Agreement http://www.shiply.com/docs/useragreement.php clause 7, Cancellations. Please note that Shiply.com is now international.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you require any further assistance or information.

    Thanks for using Shiply.

    In other words "Not interested".

Would you use them after that?

I used P4D while they had the promotion, they've rolled out a new service.

With Interparcel and Parcel2Go you can choose which courier you wish to use. Alternatively, DPD's sister company Interlink Express, which uses DPD's network for international deliveries, has it's own website (click here).

    Hi

I have a number of medium parcels to post before Christmas and wish to use a drop off service so that I am not tied in all day. Collect+ is nearest to me but Royal Mail are doing their 2nd class Medium parcel for £2.80 and I have been told that 2nd class recorded is included.

My problem is that I don't have a car.

    Would you recommend Collect +?

Also do you book direct or through Parcel2go etc?

Thanks, I would appreciate your advice :)

Collect+ uses Yodel to make the deliveries and though Yodel are notoriously bad I've personally never had a problem with them.

It makes no difference if you book directly through the Collect+ website or a reseller website (such as Parcel2Go), though occasionally there is a price difference. Check comparcel.com to see who is cheapest.

There are many resellers that offer DPD/TNT including Parcel2Go, Interparcel, P4D, Postage Supermarket, ParcelBroker and Transglobal Express. Check comparcel.com to find the service you want from the cheapest reseller.
