Another vote for UPS here, if you've not already sent them.

  • MyHermes have just announced a price 'simplification' (i.e. increase) from 18th June. Oddly the new rates quoted in the email I've just received from them differ from the new rates posted on the website, but here's the link anyway:

I've just sent 2x25KG parcels size 50x50x60cm to Germany, fully tracked using MyParcelDelivery for £17.56 each which I think was a very good deal.

Collected by UPS from my house on time and on schedule to arrive tomorrow as planned.

Incidentally this is now only £2 more than Royal Mail will now charge me to send a 9x9x9cm, 2.1KG parcel, un-tracked to my next door neighbour AND I'd have to take it to the post office!

O bother, I suspected they might do that. So much of my stuff is under 1kg so my increase will be from £3 to £4.20.

Hi, can anyone on here help me? My parcel weighs 2.5kg and measures 53cm x 36cm x 22cm and is going to Barking Essex IG11 area. My problem is Myhermes and Collect+ don't deliver to Barking!! I've checked P2G and Inter for alternatives but everything is too expensive, as is RM. I quoted postage of £5.40 with Hermes in my auction listing but can't find anything near that price. Does anyone know how I can get my parcel to Barking (from Nottm) for a reasonable price?

I use MyHermes quite a bit now and didn't know that Barking was excluded! Where did you get that from? I have listed the exceptions on my listing but didn't know about Barking. Can you tell me which areas are the exceptions as I can't find them on their website? Thanks.

    Very interesting ?
Way back in the 1960s, I knew a mail order manager who struggled with East London.
In the business his nick name was "Ali Baba and the 40 thieves".
I wonder if that is the reason for Hermes to boycott E. London, perhaps it is just one of several reasons that make parcel delivery unprofitable in those local authority areas?

Well, MyHermes definitely don't boycott Barking or east London for me, I am sending one today with no problem.

  • When I used City Link for parcels weighing 25kgs the delivery guys complained about the weight. They don't all carry trolleys.

UPS on the other hand are brilliant and I've never had any complaints about their service...or any losses or damages.

I knew I should have crossed my fingers when I wrote that!

2 parcels not collected today by UPS - first time for everything.
  • Many thanks for this article and link. I had an 11kg parcel to send to the US. The Fed-ex and DHL sites quotes were around £114.

Using transglobalexpress I was able to send it for just £38 - the courier being UPS. I then checked the price for exactly the same delivery using the UPS site - it would have been £148!!!!!!!!

    This makes me happy.
