Stewby & CFC - We're the same. This year I have become serious about dealing with the mortgages. All extra, include savings except for the bare minimum have been used which is why my figures have been so good. The Tilly Tidies were my biggest wake up call. Odd sums have been used and I really feel that's what has helped the most - £9.27 left at end of month!

Like CFC I started out in my 40's but was determined not to be paying off my mortgage when I was 70. I'm also retired due to ill-health but I do have a pension which is more than adequate once the mortgage is gone.

Holidays are and have been weekends away! We can seen the light at the end of the tunnel - 5 years left - weekends have gone from 2 days up to 5 when we go away in November as we feel we can relax a bit. Doesn't need to be warm to go to museums and art galleries!

The compromise in making us feel like people is a monthly date night and a good bottle of wine at the weekend. So well said CFC about not wanting to live like a pauper at our age! Life is a compromise.

  • Hi! My September OP was £100, had a few extra expenses this month so only our monthly DD OP went out. Oh well, hopefully October will be better :)

    Hi there.

I have taken some very good advice from the people on here and am focussing on my debts before tackling my mortgage head-on... however, from the 1st November, I will be upping my mortgage to the £400 mark from the £341.10 which means I will slowly be paying this off as well.
Once the debt is gone and we have treated ourselves to a celebratory holiday (without going back into debt for it) we will focus on the mortgage.

So, please keep me on the list as I will be making payments from the 1st november. I have spoken to my Dad (if anyone knows my story then they will know that he is in charge of my finances due to my stupidity and inability to spread my money out over a month) and he has said that the £59 won't be missed from my account and I can still pay a fair bit off my debts each month without it.
    :D

Will check back in probably in the middle of november to let you know if the first payment has gone. It's not a massive overpayment but at least it is a start.

Thanks for the reply CFC. I am glad someone else has started out on a low amount. It's a bit scary when you see all these overpayments in the hundreds of pounds. Although hopefully this will be me in the future.
    ;)

Sounds good toerag. I agree about still living and not just existing but my problem was that I tried to live above my means. I got £400 a month and obliterated before the 15th of the month then had to rely on my Dad giving me extra money from my main account. Money which would be better off being saved for real emergencies, not just because I went to New Look shopping.
    :o

Hooray for the future... going to be debt free, mortgage free and still daft as a brush.

Well done to ajmoney. Targets reached. Still time for a new one if you want to up the total a bit.:D

I will still be making my standard monthly OP and sending a bit when we have it so I will be able to contribute to the total but I am not going to change my target as I may need spare money for Christmas. I have just made another small OP though,

No 70 reporting an OP of £43.75
    MFW 2025 No. 7 £1130/£1200
    MFiT-T7 No. 6 £2873.51/£30,000

    Hey Stewby

Don't forget that your mortgage is a debt, it's just a debt that is secured on property, so to speak.

Remember the snowball effect - use your spare money to pay off the debt with the highest interest first.... because that will save you money. So consider whether at this moment clearing your other debts faster would be better for you than overpaying on your mortgage :)
  • Hello,
can i update my September payments?
I did manage to push a bit harder and managed the very impressive figure of: £12695

I'm back! The horrible month of expenses is over. Normally I would have paid £100 per month, so I have paid £250 this month to make up for missing September. TT by OH of 55p.

So, adding £250.55 for October please VM. I believe that takes me over target, so can I increase to £2200 please? (I'll try!) Thank you :D

    Been itching to make OPs!

ETA: Also, when checking spreadsheets, I've forgot to report a TT of 57p for July, so July's total should be £141.03. Groundbreaking, I know! :rotfl:
