Temptation has gotten the better of me and I've done a little account tidy.
I opened a nationwide flexdirect account a couple of months ago. Our mortgage is NW too so since I won't be using this account except to save £2500 for mortgage at better interest rate (5%) than we pay on the mortgage (2.5%) I consider this to be OPs. Anyway we hadn't reached the £2500 limit for this interest rate so really wanted to top it up.
So £458.54 sent for October. If poss will send another £175 after DH payday to reach the £2500 goal, may be November by then though. Baby expected anytime, and I think DH will be on unpaid leave for paternity, so will wait to see finances first. We will be tantalisingly close to our annual target of £10000 so will probably reach it by the new year. Fingers crossed for no unexpected bills.

48.15 paid for October. Hoping to make up for last month and this month, now MOT, car insurance and car tax are done with. MOT has been relatively expensive0

Seems busier than usual for the strt of the month. Lots of ops
A few more from September - LavenderBees, greent and Jackies.
A big pile for October - froddington, Lomcevak, Caeraugirl, black taxi, gallygirl, kirstypark, ixia, ajmoney, ElusiveLucy, freddykrueger, NPowerUser, rainbowcattail, elantan, theyorkbrood, Marie27lol, fluffysox, Calfuray, bownyboy, twistedhazel, endoftherainbow and marinia75.
and a 5 month catch-up from Retire at 50.
southerndave don't worry about everyone else's totals. Not all the numbers here are straight overpayments anyway. I think the figures some give are their total payments including any regular direct debits. Some record the amount their mortgage has reduced by. It's whatever they find best for them. If it helps to keep you motivated then you just need to decide what you want to add.
Well done to froddington, twistedhazel, ajmoney and black taxi. Targets reached. Still time for a new one if you want to up the total a bit.:D0 -

hi there.
i am a bit like the poor relation here as currently my op target is pretty small.
i hope i am doing this right. (i have pm'd voucherman as well).
i am starting my new job in october (have been dealing with stress and "low moods" for a while) and have taken this opportunity to start fresh. i will be working full-time and call me crazy... but now that i have realised that i am going to be 30 in a few months, i have suddenly decided i need to step up and be financially responsible.
i have told voucherman i am starting on 1st october, but will probably be 1st november as i obviously won't get paid my full wage until the end of october.
anyways... sorry, i have gotten distracted. sorry.
i currently pay £341.10 each month on my mortgage (this might change in october when i get my annual statement). my plan is to round it up to £400 a month. this will be a monthly overpayment of £58.90. not massive i know, but hopefully when my partner gets a job we will be able to pay a bit more.
now, i have a wee question:
* how do i know if there is a cap on how much i can over pay?? i am with the woolw**h but they were taken over by barc**ys. it is still classed as the woolw""h though. my dad seems to think it is normally about 20% but i can't find anything anywhere to tell me this. (i am a wee bit daft so i might have missed information).
i hope this makes sense.... and fingers crossed it all goes to plan.
Hi Hi Stewby
Just wanted to add my 2 cents to cheer you up.
I too am a 'normal' person without huge amounts of money to fling at overpaying my mortgage. Let me tell you where I have got to so far.
I bought my house 10.5 years ago in my 40's on a 25 year mortgage. To start with I could only make the regular payments. I can't recall when I started overpaying it, it was as my wages went up, and when this forum alerted me to the good reasons to overpay. Maybe 5 -6 years ago? Not sure. I started on this thread several years ago but I don't bother now because overpaying is the 'norm' for me, I don't need motivating to do it any more.
So I started overpaying £35 a month, then changed to £50 per month, had to stop for a bit when I was threatened with potential redundancy, then changed to £100 per month. Now I overpay £150 per month. At my current rate of overpayment, I will be mortgage free in 8 years. Who knows, maybe I will get another pay raise and be able to pay off even sooner.
I still 'live normally' ie enjoy what I want, because at my age frankly I don't want to live like a pauper.
It doesn't matter how much you overpay - even if it is £20 a month it will mount up. And the sooner you start in your mortgage, the more effective it is.
Just to motivate you a bit more, I have entered into another 5 year fix, which might or might not be the best thing to do - one never knows till afterwards! In comparison to my current mortgage this will save me around £30 a month in interest - which will be put into more overpayments.0 -

Sneaking in with another September posting after I'd updated the sheet. I can't even use early morning as an excuse for missing that
. Corrected now and your target amended.
