Oh Indiepanda, I am so sorry, lean on your friends and be kind to yourself, I am sure that you have made the right decision for you, but also appreciate your heartbreak.

Becky2, that is grim having no heating, do you have a fanheater or can you get hold of one, hot water bottles are great too, if you can keep your lower back and feet warm when you are moving around and as Indiepanda said wrap up in the duvet, also lots of hot drinks to warm up your core.

Just taken clay mask on and layered up with moisturising mask, one gammon joint cooked another in crock pot, off to look up some quick and easy recipes for cakes and traybakes now.

    Take care everyone.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the bad things that are happening to everyone around here. Big big hugs to you all.

    I have a couple of IN's to report;

Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain in Romantic - Used this last night and it's a quite nice wearable red.

Rimmel Scandle eyes eyeliner in Nude - FINALLY a UK company makes a nude eyeliner! It really does look better than white on your waterline for waking your eyes up!

Models Own Nail Polish in Snowflakes - I've seen a couple of people using this on blogs and it looks so pretty!

Week off work next week and I'm going home to my parents where they have a bath, so I might treat myself to some Lush baths while I'm there!
    Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £

REN hand & body cream (from skincare pack in a magazine) - Did the job but the smell really put me off. Plenty of cheaper and better-smelling products out there.

I've just started using this. Weird smell AND weird consistency. Not looking forward to the other 2 items that came with it! Currently using a Murad face wash that was also a freebie and totally underwhelmed by that also. I don't know how they get away with charging the prices they do and just glad I didn't actually pay for them!

Oh my goodness... it has been a tough week for our thread family.

Maddiemay, as many positive vibes as I can gather are going to your brother - and to you and all your family. You sound a strong, loving and united team, what a blessing for you all.

Indiepanda, I am so sorry to hear about what has happened to you. It must hurt like hell. Good to hear that you have the support of loving friends.
I had a long distance relationship break up 9 years ago - I was totally convinced this was "THE one".
He broke it off as he had lost his job and couldn't see a way forward for us - he was very depressed.

I threw everything I had into my tutoring career, even though I was in my mid forties. It kept me sane, got me high level qualifications and put me in a far better situation for long term security.

It's such a shock to the system when your future goes sideways like this. You will recover, it will take time. Be good to yourself.

Becky2, I've only been a private tenant very briefly and a long time ago, so can't offer up to date advice, though I know there is excellent advice elsewhere on these forums. I have been a landlord in the past too though- you should not have to spend money on extra heating, your landlord should be providing it. A rent reduction for this period should be agreed too, I would have thought.

Wheat bags that you can heat in the micro are a great way to keep warm, along with hot water bottles as suggested. Keep moving and wrap up warm - lots of thin layers. Go to bed warmly dressed too - wear fluffy socks, etc.

My heating broke down some years ago one winter when I was absolutely skint and it was a nightmare.

Eventually I got it fixed, took out a service agreement with British Gas (big mistake; service was rubbish and I never got what I paid for). I then discovered that I could have a new boiler and radiators for free through the Warm Front scheme. This has since changed; I got in just in time. My receipt of a disability benefit made me eligible even though I work. It's means tested now and much, much harder to qualify.

I came on here to confess to a small sin :o - I just did an online survey and I have shampoo and conditioner on the way soon to trial... I know, I should have said no. Mea culpa.
However, it does mean no spending for a while longer.

Guess who WON'T be graduating in March as planned! Unless the products are carp and have to be GA of course.

How do we actually graduate? Couldn't see an explanation on the first post.

4UUs so far today (I should be able to add 4 items later when my ebay auctions finish:))

I had a long, soothing bath and used a face mask then used hand scrub all over!

Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask, 50ml - WNBA, I'm going off LE products a bit.

Imperial Leather Ocean Fresh Revitalising Shower Gel, 300ml - WBA I liked this a lot, nice smell and non-drying.

Organix Moisturizing grapefruit mango butter conditioner, 385ml - WNBA cos it was mediocre and a TKM bargain so doubt I could find it again anyway.

Virgin Vie Heavenly Hands Sugar Scrub, 125g - WNBA because while it was a good scrub it left a weird oily residue that I didn't like very much.

  • Indiepanda - huge hugs - you have been very strong in a difficult situation - 2013 will be your year.

Becky2 - hope your heating gets fixed soon. I have been there and it is awful. I was boiling kettles to have a wash - nightmare.

CookieMonsta - I think you 'graduate' yourself when you have your stash and hoarding in the toiletry dept under control. I don't think there are hard and fast rules as we all count slightly different things in our stashes and all want something slightly different from the challenge. I am way off graduating myself but I do know what I want to achieve with the challenge and will know when I get there. Hope this makes some sort of sense...

    Now for the UUs:

S&G righteous butter - another S&G gone from the stash. Actually like the texture of this but the smell is a bit strong for my liking.

Murad AHA exfoliating wash - WNBA, not 'scrubby' enough for my liking. Back to a LE one now which is potentially a HG.

Gatineau firming throat gel - WBA, like the tightening feel of this - I tend to use this in the daytime and then something else at night.

Elemis treat your feet foot cream - WBA, liked the texture and smell of this and it did feel as though it was conditioning the skin on my feet.

Several splutterers so hope to be back with more UUs soon.
  • Thanks very much for the explanation, kiplingmonkey, that makes perfect sense :)
