I got to my local Sainsbury's at 6.50am, and noticed that the store opened at 7am. There were just over 20 people in the queue and at 7am, tickets were handed out. Luckily they had 90 bags and I managed to get a ticket, but had to wait until 8am to get the bag. All tickets gone by 7.45am. There wasnt really a mad scramble, as in other stores - it was quite a pleasant experience for a change.2008 Club Member: 433

Joined the queue at 0650 in staines, was given a ticket when shop opened at 0700. The manager was a bit of a muppet, and stated that he was going to give everyone in the queue a ticket and do a raffle for them!!!! Well done to the people in front of me who wouldn't let him get away with this.
Anyway well done everyone who made the effort, and a big up to the "Staines Posse".0 -

I feel a need to defend Sainsbury's here. I was at my local branch at 710am, and was 21st in the queue. There was another man behind me, and he spoke to the staff like he was one of them (he was, anyway). There was no way I could tell, because he had a jumper over his uniform, but the manager came and told him firmly that there was no way he could get one, because it said so very clearly on the brief. No staff in uniform is allowed to get a bag, even those who queued. He left under the pressure from the manager and other staff members.
While it is unfair that some staff did get bags in other stores, it is not fair to say "Shame on Sainsbury's" because clear instructions were sent out from the headquarters, and most managers did abide by them. For my stall, tickets were given out twice, between 730am to 745am, to the first 30 people who were in the queue, and no one left. I do not think of it as any form of reservation rather than a move to maintain orderliness, and to allow others who queue later to know that they are not likely to get the bag.
I may be saying this because I did get a bag, but I do think that this initiative was a good one - Sainsbury's made no profit out of it, and in some cases some staff had to bear the brunt of upset people not getting bags. Therefore I tend to think of it as Sainsbury's doing a favour, and getting the bag as a bonus (and luck) rather than a right.
I hope I have not offended anyone.0 -

You are totally right!! I couldn't have said it fairer! Nobody is making a profit from these bags, thats why they are being sold at cost to convey a very important environmental message!:rudolf: I love xmas!0 -
I just got bk and managed to get one for me and i love it!
I qued from 6am & was the 7th person in the q, my store had 75 bags
Our store handed tickets out in the order you arrived & if you left the q you lost your place!
Only thing was staff said they wouldnt give any tickets to children so some young girls were crying because they werent allowed one which i think was very unfair!
All the woman just kept yelling was its at the mangers discression who we give tickets to!
I totally agree that it is unfair about children not being given a ticket. I was there with my daughter at 7am this morning and she was really looking forward to having one, but when it was 7.55 and they were handing out tickets, they passed her by, when i said, hang on, what about my daughter
we were completely ignored. The people in front and behind us said that was really rude, so when I picked up the bag, I again asked, " at what age are do you become a Sainsbury's "Customer" and was told "you wouldn't send your daughter in to do your shopping would you" and I said "no, but that's not answering my question" so I repeated the question, and she repeated her answer and it was obvious I was getting nowhere, so I just said I will write to head office as a matter of principle as they were being discriminating. All it says is "1 per customer", no mention of "you have to be over 18" etc.0
