Hi,
Unfortunately, due to ill health I'm going to have to withdraw from this year's challenge. May be back for 2014 instead. Wish everyone the best of luck with their savings. No. 132 for slowlyfading.AFD 0/310 -
£700 so far this month and suspect that will be it. Its much less than both last months and what I had hoped for but I have fewer pay days in February and my 7 year old laptop finally gave up so I have bought a shinny new one2021 MFW #35: £6000/£60000

Just worked out that I should be able to save £2060 by October 1st 2013, meaning I'd reach my target of 2K for the year. Need to try and achieve this as once I go to uni in October, there may be a period where I am out of work and I will need to be spending on getting set up at uni so unlikely to get any more saved after October. So excited to try and save £2000 this year, will be far more than I have ever saved before ::D.
It looks unlikely that I will able to end the year with 2K saved, but I'm not going to worry about that too much, anything saved is still goodSave 12K in 2013, #203.

youngsaver1995 - it may be worth doing valued opinions surveys and converting them to Amazon giftcards. I do this and then buy my course text books from them. I save a small fortune. If you start now you could have a fair amount saved by October and that would help financially especially if the student loan company mess up payments.0

Thanks, thats a good idea :T. I started using Swagbucks a couple of weeks back. I've been using it inconsistently but earned enough points for one £5 Amazon Voucher so far. Need to try and use it each day, as I reckon I could get £15-£20 from it each month which would certainly help when it comes to buying textbooks and things like that.
If I may ask, which website/s do you use?Save 12K in 2013, #203.

Wow! £8K is a massive target for a student. I thought I was going for it with a 2K target. If I may ask, what do you study? And presuming you do a degree, do you find plenty of time to work in term time?
I work in sales part time at the weekends which doesn't generate much really.. about £400 a month but i can generally get some coursework done whilst i'm there! Then when it comes to holidays, I work quite a bit more.. up to 66 hours a week. I then have a separate income of about £90 a month from interest from savings.
I'm doing a degree in psychology then need to do a masters in organisational psychology which should set me back about £8k for the year.
I've worked out that I can save about 8k over the summer alone however I save £200 a month working part time just incase. I'm going to figure out what i've saved so far when I get home from work tonight to start myself off on the challenge
Oh and the main note here is that I live at home with my only outgoing being £7 a month for a sim only contract and £10 a month for petrol for my motorbike :P
Fingers crossed this goes well!£3,950/£12,000 2013 saving challenge0 -
Hi eklipze - hope you don't mind me asking but how much does your overdraft cost each month? Would it be better to use the £915 to pay that off rather than put it an ISA?
Just a thought - happy to mind my own business..... : )
No it's a good point. £250 of it is free, well not really as it's part of a Barclays Additions account (£13.50) a month but I haven't decided wether or not to keep this on as I'm already paying for AA and additions give me RAC ... currently researching what else is included to make my decision.
The other £12.50 costs me just under £20 a month in interest.
I decided I would not pay this off straight away as I wanted to make the most of this Tax years ISA first before I lose the chance. So I'll sacrifice a couple of months interest until April, then I'll be clearing the OD before starting next years ISA.
Seemed logical to me, bit of a waste in interest but for more locked away tax free.0 -
I know this is late but January's figures were £350 saved for me.
Not long till payday. Yippee.

I tend to use valued opinions a lot. Surveys are meh but they are regular and they add up quickly.
Been using onepoll too but thats mainly because I'm £8 away from cashing out. Taking so long though.
I've signed up to swagbucks but it annoys me for some reason.
I used to use Toluna and DooYoo aswell but I haven't been on them in ages.0 -
This threads very quiet today, hope everybody's had a nice relaxing Sunday.
Savings up to £66.46 now for this year, 3.3% of my target lol. I should be at £300 by the end of the month thoughI tend to use valued opinions a lot. Surveys are meh but they are regular and they add up quickly.
