  • Hi there,

A pretty quiet month for me so far, put a few more things on eBay at the weekend in the Zero Insertion fees listings, hopefully something will sell! I have a whole spreadsheet worked out for the rest of the year as to how I'm going to save £10k, most of it will come from salary but I'm about £300 short which I'm aiming to make up from eBay sales, cashback websites, survey websites and any interest earned on my accounts....so in my head all I have to do extra work on is the £300....whilst also controlling my spending so I can stick to my savings from wages each month!

Its going to be a pretty tight year seeing as I have 4 weddings to attend, 2 of which I'm a bridesmaid for and 1 of which is abroad! But it's all in the spreadsheet.....(I LOVE spreadsheets!) so as long as there are no ugly surprises I should be on track. Was pretty chuffed to save what I did in Jan, especially as it was January, I had a hen weekend away and a weekend away to look for bridesmaid dresses. I was tryig to think back to see if I had to cut back/felt deprived of anything and to be honest I really didn't.

I think I've spent a lot of time in the past thinking I couldn't possibly save that much money as it seems too much/out of my reach but I think just being totally aware of what money I have to spend and what to save has made the process so much easier. I'm one of those who pay money into savings at the start of the month and then just live on what I have left for the rest of the month, if I waited to see what I had at the end of the month there would definitely be nothing left!

I agree, I've just found this challenge and initial reaction was to decide it's just a step too far for me.....reading all the threads, I think I've changed my mind. I'm going to aim to have £4000 by the end of the year. Already got £2000 in an ISA from an inheritance so would like to build on that with my own money.

Thanks to everyone on the thread for the motivational sentiments x

  • Have decided to not save for the next two months to finish paying off all our debt. So addicted to saving so it feels strange, but definitely makes sense on a rational level. :) On the bright side, from April onwards we'll be able to save a lot more!

Hoping to save £200 this month which would put me back on track to save £2000 this year, which I would be delighted with. Trying to do as much overtime as I can at the moment, but its difficult what with being busy doing 4 A levels. Managed 7.5 hours overtime this week on top of the 8 hours I'm contracted to do and off college this week so expect to do another 12-14 hour week, so am well on track to earn £280-£300 this month, in which case I should be able to achieve £200 savings :).

How very impressive. Keep going, you are an inspiration to all students out there
