I'm trying to add £80 to my savings account however pregnancy brain has struck and I can't remember my login for HBOS!! Can't help but laugh at myself, at least I can't spend it if I can't get to it I suppose.

College bursary due to be paid on Friday however I have a feeling that due my time off it wont go in (it should because its all authorised leave) Fingers crossed that it does and then I can add around £400 to my total.

Started reading Peter Jones book "Tycoon" last night, still a bit unsure about it but its taught me one or two things already, will keep at it and report back if any of it is relevant to this thread.

A couple of books that are probably relevant to this thread:
The richest man in babylon - George Clason - Talks about paying off debts and getting savings together. Told in a series of stories about various characters from babylon. First published in the 1920s I think but still worth a read today - I regularly go back to my copy for inspiration. Richest Man in Babylon was recommended in a Jim Rohn CD. Jim Rohn also does some stuff on becoming financially independent as well as lots of other success stuff - I love all Jim Rohn stuff as I find it inspiring and motivating.

Your money or your life - Alvin Hall - maybe a bit out of date but still lots of relevant information. I used to love his TV programmes.
  • Hi - new here, having browsed and lurked for a year or so. I'd like to sign up for the full £12k please.
January I managed to save £1100, so I am very hopeful I'll achieve it this year. Last year I managed to save £10,700, so I've upped my own ante this year.

Do you know how many boxes of chocolate we now have in the house...15, yes that's right 15 boxes of chocolate!!! That's in addition to the five stashes of chocolate secreted in various rooms about the place.

OH went shopping today. I gave her £20 because she whimpered that £10 wouldn't be enough. She came out of the shop with five bags of shopping. 'I've found some bargains' she said looking a bit sheepish 'so I've only spent £30. I think I did well!' I reassured her that four more packets of cheese, yet more potatoes and cream cakes were indeed a bargain and shut up. I have now officially given up in my quest to reduce the shopping bill :o

I'm now off to have a fag...

I finished of the Christmas Chocs on Friday night, well my friends did they had the ones I dislike and the champange truffles went to another friend, such vile things why give them as a gift to someone?

I'd much rather a selection of cheese's over chocolates!
Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!

Ooh me too!! If I was faced with the dilemma of no more chocolate for the rest of my life or no more cheese, I would definitely choose no more chocolate. Couldn't live without cheese. I have two blocks of cheddar, a block of parmesan and a soft cheese spread in my fridge right now but in my defence, they will get eaten and before I buy more! :D

Thanks slowly fading, we should all pay £1 or 2 towards your contribution at the year end for something for you/a charity of your choice...£215 if we all pay a £1, better than nothing and that will be our good deed for the day when it comes.....just an idea!!

Youngbusinessman makes a good point. Perhaps Slowley fading will give it a bit of thought. Afterall, it take quite a commitment to keep us all motivated.
  • I'm pondering not saving at all for the next 3 months just to pay off my remaining credit card debt. Sounds like a no brainer to use savings to do that since I'm earning %2.85 versus the %12.99% - was planning to pay off by October but if I pay early I'll end up £70 better off by year's end...
