    Debt-free and Proud!
Everyone is doing such a good job - keep on going guys! Well I have managed to save $500 this month. I decided to take in a foreign student for the month of July and that definitely helped the bank balance. She was supposed to join us for breakfast and dinner and I had to provide a packed lunch. Well in the mornings she was always waking up late and rushing to get to the language school on time. She also never arrived back in time to eat with us either in the evening. The call of McD's etc was too powerful to ignore for the young group of Spanish Students - ha ha. Like Nat, I was also given a lovely present from her - a v posh bottle of olive oil...Mmmm! So, it was a success and the money is a big help!
The kids have been on summer holidays for a month here and the weather is so much better than last year. They have just finished a (free) month in summer school with their friends, doing Art, Cooking etc. Today they spent all day at a big picnic next to the Community Pool - cheap as chips and everyone had a great time. Summer is going too fast - boo!
Thanks again for all your hard work, Slowlyfading - you're the best!

£808.28 stashed away for real this time, not against debt - not quite as much as I was planning, but I got the air conditioning in my car fixed ... bliss :D:D

And another £300 from the regular saver, plus a cheque for £25 I decided to stash away before it got spent :)

So £1133.28 for the month, and a total £5564.28 for the challenge to date now that i've deducted future debt repayments for when the car loan lump sum comes due from what I was reporting as 'savings'. I'm almost £2k behind where I should be in the challenge if i'm to make the full £13k, but not ready to throw in the towel just yet :D
  • I'm having an expensive month with no spare money, and I've got a week away in a fortnight. I thought I'd see what other money to pay for spends, rather than dip into savings.

It was a bit like the electronic equivalant of looking for coins behind the sofa cushions, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover:
      Topcashback £98 Yougov £50 £2 coin piggy bank £200 Yet-to-claim mileage £150 Handy household cash £110 Survey vouchers £30

So that's just on £650 without really appreciating that I had it. Result! :D

  • Declaring £1800 for July, which puts me within £500 of my overall target!

    That's the good news.

The bad news is my job has been rebanded at work/my contract has changed, so I'm going to lose a few hundred quid from my wage packet each month :( from August onwards. I am getting paid a fairly significant amount of overtime though from the past couple of months, thankfully on my old wage as that was when I undertook it.

So I think I need a new target. £20 000 over the year would be quite a stretch, £17 000 is probably more reasonable, but what's a target for but to stretch you?

Thank you Slowly Fading for managing the spreadsheets :T
