Am I allowed to join with a really pathetic target of £1000? I'm chowing down on debt next year, but DH wants to start saving towards car stuff from the end of February, and I've set up a standing order to our savings account and figured it into the budget. I looked for a 'Small savings in 2013' challenge but couldn't see one. Am really looking forward to being personally debtfree mid-2014 and joining you all on that year's thread. Have you got room for a pygmy amongst giants or shall I wait till next year?"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Welcome to all the new people joining us in 2013 savings.
Tiglath £1000 is not pathetic. Congratulations on setting your aim for a realistic target. There isn't really any differentiation between giants & pygmies here. The idea is that, whatever your target, it is going to be challenging to save, and having some support & reporting in on progress can help. You're very welcome here.
Scottish Lassie, Girlatplay, mookie & SF Some great tips there.
My son is very hard up at the moment and he gave me a tip today which I'll pass on. It's christmas-related, but appropriate as December spending impacts on January savings.
My son said to watch out for the cost of christmas cards - particularly the individual-sold related-ones (sister, girlfriend, dad, etc) which often have inflated prices. They can add considerably to the cost of your christmas giving.
Perhaps he was hinting to me not to expect an expensive 'mum' card? I gave him a tip in return - which was that home-made cards are always much cheaper and, because the recipient realises you put some effort into making them, they are more appreciated. (You don't have to be able to draw or be arty, Think collage. Get inspiration from google images 'home made christmas cards'. You can avoid 'tackiness' by incorporating a personal element into the card that the recipient will appreciate such as football colours/banter, family joke, etc.) A good home-made card with a token (such as chocs) can be a solution when you want to give a present but can't afford much.0 -

Welcome to all new people
SF can you update my target to £4000 please? I have just remembered that I am setting aside £30 per month into a sort of emergency fund which I have no intention of dipping into this year (I say "sort of" because I already have a small emergency fund, this one is just to increase that). Makes it a little more of a challenge tooMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
Mortgage today = £161,690.76
300 271 payments to go.House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

Oh this is me too - the reasoning is that if it's 25% off I'm saving 25% right? Not that I'm spending money....I have been deleting apps and facebay memberships etc too
So looking forward to starting this challenge. Have applied for First Direct account so we can get the 8% regular saver hopefully and then start paying in £300 a month there, £150 to other regular savers we already have and the rest into our ISAs.Save £12K 2013 #54 - £4625/£15k£19,625 saved since 2011£50,000 by August 2014SPC #1925 £600 -
ive been using the 'i've not budgeted for that this month' for a good few months now, more so to my boyfriend, most of my friends are all in the same boat so we share fancy clothes when going to weddings/christenings etc, we meet during the day, get the kids together, and let them play while we drink tea/juice and have a good chin-wag.
I'm absolutely excited for this challenge, i just hope i have the same enthusiasm in the summer!
Am practising saying "I've not budegeted for that his month" over and over, it will stick, I'm determined... usually I try and say no and end up saying yes instead so will have to keep reminding myself... *goes away to practise some more*Save £12K 2013 #54 - £4625/£15k£19,625 saved since 2011£50,000 by August 2014SPC #1925 £600 -
