Chuffed! Came home to an email asking if I would host 3 girls at short notice so I now have 3 Austrian girls coming to stay on 14-22nd, this will net me a tidy sum of £264
they are staying over my birthday so that's hampered and plans I was think of making! Last year it was just a regular busy day, so much so I even forgot it was my birthday until my mum phoned me in the evening! Thought I'd make an effort this year so at least I have people to share a cake with

No No Nat....you must not let your birthday plans get pushed aside! In my experiences as a Host Family, the young people I have cared for have loved any excuse for a good party!!! They love to see part of our culture and throw themselves into the celebrations! The hardest bit I found was when the kids I cared for had a birthday and they came from countries where birthdays weren't a big deal....not for any religious reasons, but because the parents were out working, it was often only the servants who acknowledged the day. We had one girl who turned 18, without even a phone call from home; she was delighted when my kids sang Happy Birthday to her over some shop-bought doughnuts with a candle stuck in the middle!
So go on, have a lovely day!'You've got to tell your money what to do or it will leave!' Dave Ramsey0 -
Well unpleasant morning I have hurt my ankle! Worked on an it doesn't seem to have improved much!! Need to get this week out the way before I can think about putting my feet up. What an awful time for it to happen-Monday morning with busiest week of the year so far ahead of me!! Won't let it get me down will just make sure if earnings slow a bit then spending has to follow suit!:eek:Living frugally at 24

Woohoo, £125 join up incentive from first direct has been applied
also made £35 from an item that was free. The £35 was cash so I'm keeping that in a pot for my jolly away at the end of the month.

Also, does interest earned on your previous bank balance count? (as I have earned around total £1,400 this April in interest alone on my balances from various bank accounts). If so, this should take my savings total to around £9,400.
Although I personally don't, because I want to concentrate my efforts on day-to-day cost-saving.
On the other hand, getting my ISAs sorted today for a prospected £372 gain over a year and it does feel like having saved £372 in 20 minutes!Only for today though

Good start to the month, £700 stashed away and £24.20 in interest turned up too so that's gone back in the pot. Will add in another £500 later this week
£500 more stashed away as planned, turning into a good month now - car's in with the garage this morning for service and MOT, so nervously awaiting 'the call'0 -
Lom, how did the call go? How much damage is the car doing to your savings plans?
I have 2 winter tyres on front of van(a size or two larger than they should be and bigger than back ones) I do not like them, however i think i will keep them on another month and then see about changing and getting a set of alloys and summer tyres for a few months then swap back to winters on steelies late October. Cost of 5 new Vauxhall alloys is about £400 plus cost of 4 new tyres....i will try and hit £9k in savings target then when i am say £750 over £9k i will buy my alloys as a treat:eek:Living frugally at 24

Savings are more difficult now and will be for the next two months. The effort to fill my ISA has left us short so will have to just keep focused and look ahead to July.
