Hi Guys,
After some help. My wife and I are expecting our first baby at the end of March which we are very excited about.
I want to buy my wife something after she has had bump, and I think I remember reading somewhere that is is tradition to get something specific??... I think it could have been an eternity ring but I am not sure.
Can someone tell me if there is something?.. Im thinking Jewellery, although she already has an eternity ring!
thanks
Mr P

I think its an eternity ring after the birth of a baby. If she already has one what about a Pandora bracelet?SPC #1813

Congratulations to you both.
It's really up to you (but very thoughtful:T)
My oh got me a beautiful watch for our first born, a eternity ring for the second, and a large pearl on a wire (chosen together) for my third!I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Yes that is right it is an eternity ring.
Not everyone follows this tradition. Despite a nudge and a not so subtle hint my DH did not give me an eternity ring for either of my two births, and it is not something that is forgotten!
It is lovely of you to think about it, good luck with the baby0 -
thanks for the comments guys! I think I will go down the jewellery route! certainly Pandora could be an option... or I could get her another ring (for her other hand.. Lol) or maybe a necklace!
Tough call but any other ideas appreciated! i will get the usual flowers etc but i'm thinking something more as a "keep sake" than anything!£2008 for 2008 club No. 286

Eternity rings are a traditional gift after the birth of a first child. I think anything pretty much goes dependant on the preferances of the couple though. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

FYI - most 'traditions' were invented by De Beers and marketing men.. (see Engagement rings as a good example)
You want the best present? Offer to do the night-feeds for a week after the birth0 -
Neither of us realised there were "rules" about these things!
Buy something that's right for her - not what someone else has decided on.0 -

A week  Not long enough by far. The real exhaustion doesn't kick in until well after the first week, euphoria keeps you going for the first couple of weeks.
Every weekend until the baby sleeps through would be a better gift. 2 years in my second babies case.0 -

my ex didn't buy me anything after either of our children were born. He did go and buy himself a new football shirt each time though!0
