If a job's worth doing, get a nerd with OCD tendencies and too much time on their hands and let them loose with a spreadsheet ;) The details below are just a small taste of the delights of spreadsheeting, my darling :) It's a bit like directing a choir to get each bit to talk to the other bits so they update in harmony when one cell is changed.

My eventual plans are to do home insurance in November, council tax in March and water in April each year once I've got a big enough lump sum saved. DH can't remember when his car insurance is renewed so I can't factor that in yet. It doesn't make sense to do it with the TV licence because I'm always paying 6 months in advance for that, for some reason. I also won't do it with the pet insurance in case we have a population change during the year.

Once I'm debtfree in 18 months we're going to put money into the joint current account and pay household bills minus groceries from there. At the moment it all comes out of my current account, which has been the best way over the years to ensure that everything gets paid and nothing bounces. I always know to the penny how much goes in and out; I reconcile my spreadsheet daily with my online banking, and my spreadsheet is set out like a bank statement projected forward for 4 years. That way I can see the impact of any changes in direct debits, tax codes etc and adjust accordingly.

wow Tiglath, I am seriously impressed with the sound of your Spreadsheet, and maybe just a little bit jealous :D.

I have set up an Excel Spreadsheet but I am abit of a computer dope so I only manage to get it to Autosum the incoming and outgoing columns but I can't get it to autosum recognising a minus or in positive amount, so I have to do it with my calculator. I am managing to forecast to February but its time consuming xx

    Morning LL

Sounds like you have got your bank all budgeted out well. Its great that you haven't got an overdraft and you can see money left in your account, very jealous.

Well done on your NSD's so far, enjoy your meal with your friend today.

Great that hubby has gotten on with the tiling, your kitchen will look great

    Have a great day xx
  • im very impressed with the restraint i have shown with my bank account. to not be in my over draft at this point in the month is unheard of. might reduce my over draft to £100 in the new year rather than the £300 it is now..just in case?

    Hiya LurvelyLoz

Being paid early is a pain ins't it? I'm taking my usual money out for my various envelopes already (petrol, food shopping, entertainment etc) but my main issue will be the food shopping as it makes it closer to 5 weeks than 4 weeks. We have run out of some bits (queue normally me buying bits out of budget, but I've become much better about that since joining the grocery challenge this month) and I was hoping to push it as long as possible without buying bits. However, my folks have just phoned and asked to have the kids over for dinner to help them decorate the tree, which would be an ideal time for us to go to Mr Ts and do a Christmas-spell stock up and get any fresh Christmas bits we need.
