    Happy Christmas Everyone!!!

I hope you are all having a nice time and getting in lots of rest and relaxation!!!

I've been on self enforced bed rest as was struck down with nasty flu a few days back which has just gone straight to my chest... fever, cough, sore throat... yuck! I think it's just a culmination of being run down and it's my body's way of saying enough.

Like a few others my spending went a little off track. I'm claiming my intense and overwhelming desire to buy cornflakes and ice cream was down to the fever (seriously - i had the shakes and felt rotten... then got these bizarre cravings and had to go out to the shop there and then!). I'm still within my spending budget for the month - just went over what I'd planned to spend on groceries.

It's funny how when you feel at your worst - it's often when you discover your inner strength and that hidden glimmer of resolve that just refuses to give in. Today I feel better, brighter and even more determined than ever to get back on track and reclaim my life!!!I feel more positive and 'alive' than I have in weeks and I actually have a desire to engage with life once more! I'm really really hoping it's here to stay!!!

Am going to enjoy the rest of the day, and have a quiet, relaxing and contemplative time... Looking back over 2012 and forward to what 2013 has to offer...

    Merry Christmas one and all!

    :xmassign::rudolf:

Sorry I haven't been around much this past week or so. I have been so busy. I have been trying to keep up with the thread and stick to the challenge although like many have had a few slip ups! I have definitely spent less and been more in control because of this challenge and am looking forward to the January one :D

I have gone slightly over my shopping budget (oops) but do have a £30 voucher from Morrisons which will help with next weeks shop and I shouldn't need much more.

We have had a lovely day today. M woke at 3am but resolved to pretend nothing was different ( but he thought 'He' had been) and then didn't wake until 7.20am! He was mega happy with his gifts :j

I got a dressing gown, nightie, pjs, thorntons chocolate tree (it's awesome), and coat from hubby, oh and some iTunes credit bless him. All are lovely. My lovely best friend bought me a Radley purse and I had some sanctuary toiletries from Bro in law and 2 bottles of wine. I am a lucky girl :D

Bought us National Trust family membership from mum via quidco so thats a years worth of cheap/free days out :)

We went to visit mum this morning, they had created a good atmostphere at the care home and then when we got back I cooked dinner for the 3 of us. We have played sky landers, watched Room on the Broom and Home Alone 3, played Kerplunk, eaten chocolate and generally had a nice day :D Now all bathed and in bed drinking Carolans :D what's not to like!

Will try to resist the sales but it will be tough! Well done to those with more will power than me. There are some great NSD totals I noticed.

Gelmc I also get migraines with aura. Had 2 this week but have cricked my neck a few days go which I think is contributing. I tend to feel queasy and my periferral vision goes and everything is fuzzy. I tend to get pins and needles in my hands or down my left arm. It can be a bit scary. Luckily it doesn't happen often. I had my first one when I was pregnant, they can be hormonal apparently. Being quiet and still helps, preferably a lie down in the dark and some pain relief. The headaches aren't usually to bad with me, the aura is worse. I sympathise. If I catch it quick, the worst doesn't last to long usually although I can be sensitive to light and queasy for a couple of days.

Time for sleep. Night night x

  • Hi everyone, hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday, mine was a bit manic with all my family here for dinner and tea but very enjoyable. Finally got home just before 2.30am yesterday morning after picking up daughter and family from airport - lovely to see them all again:) - and then we were all up at 8am, but didnt open most pressies until other daughters arrived.

Anyway like a few others I have failed the challange, may make the nsd's but budgets all to pot, but having said that it could have been soooooo much worse - so Im looking forwards to January challange.

Everyone keep enjoying yourselves:) and its back to work tomorrow for me:(

  • Hello boys and girls.. I think many folks have gone over shopping budgets.. I am so super skint at the moment but still I have to get my bike filled up with petrol when I get home on Friday for the last overtime shifts of the month. I am desperate to do something for New Years but didn't budget for it so might go see my cousin in Horsham on the bike and have a family New Year with them.... anyone venturing outside or are you having a quiet one in the house..?

Please tell me though that none of you have venture near the sales. I must admit I would be more concerned about your safety more than your expenditure. 10 in, 10 out in Leeds at the NEXT store - there ain't anything that special in the NEXT sales by the time you get in. AND they don't allow you to try things on which for my weird shaped body is never a good move..:rotfl:

So what's everyone doing today...? Its blustery and cold over here.. we got loadsa nuts and seeds for the local menagerie of birdies that visit so we are playing a game of "spot the fattest bird"

Its amazing what amuses you in the countryside! I must admit one robin looks like he is about to explode...My Dad buys usually buys a 13kg sack of seeds to keep them going..apparently over a certain size there is no VAT so birdy seeds gets cheaper as the bag gets bigger...who'd have thought eh..

Right this is tantamount to ramblings.. over on my own thread I am plotting a wee insert of the best quotes from a book called "Make More Money" this is more about the way we should think for success rather than a quick fix.... sorry to disappoint..:p:p:p

Hi Kat- does this mean i can stay to finish the month?

I have been severely tempted by the FatFace sale again..but still have not given in, and dont think i will either.
I have debt to clear and things to save up for, so no unnecessary spendng for me for the forceeable future :)

I am all geared up for Januarys challenge now, and cant wait to get stuck in.

    What is 'your thread' Kat?
  • Hi WantToBeSE...PLEASE stay to the end. We can all compare notes at the end and see what we can change for next year - or plan better for.

My thread is https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4205263... my own personal story. Despite each monthly challenge ending and another starting - this thread is my continuous journey which I will run until 31/12/2013...

Am excited about Januarys Myself..just need to figure out a good name..

  • Hi All...

Am well and truly avoiding the Sales - looked outside and it's cold and blustery and besides, I have £5 left out of my allotted spend budget ha ha!!!

Am having a day in where it's warm with the cats and lots of peace and quiet. Both flat mates away so have the place to myself... Bliss. I could quite easily become a hermit ha ha!!!

    Today = NSD number 17

Am also looking forward to January's Challenge... Hoorah!!!

    Afternoon all :)
I love when its wet and windy outside and we are tucked up all snug (lots of layers, trying to save on heating) at home. Will try and drag the kids out for a walk tomorrow though.

Leftovers for dinner tonight-Nigellas 'Turkey Pilaf' made with chicken instead. Lunch was bubble and squeak using yesterdays leftover roast potatoes, carrots and sausages :)

I am determined not to go off track at all from now on, so i spent last night doing my meal plan for the week, and shopping list for Friday.

I downloaded the amazon kindle app onto my sons new nexus7 and have been downloading some FREE new books onto there, and am seriously considering getting myself an e-reader for Christmas next year :)
