I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
Hi Kat- i would definitely be tempted to get a basic kindle, but ONLY if i can find ways of buying it that dont include actually PAYING for it, LOL. Things like you said-flogging stuff on eBay, and also seeing if i can shave a few quid off the GC budget.
  • Hi All

Happy 27th! I am back at work today - boo hiss :(

Congratulations to Mancman  Well done you! Have you a date in mind?

Hubby has dropped me off and gone to deliver something sold on Ebay with M. They are building in a trip to the cinema all being well so I am quite jealous.

Yesterday was a spend day for me as we went for a walk followed by a pub lunch (just the 3 of us) and it was my shout. Hubby paid for lunch out on Xmas Eve.

Hubby has been buying a few bits from furniture auctions the past few weeks and selling them on Ebay for a profit :T

We have been talking about that quite a bit over xmas as he is thinking about declaring himself self employed and doing it 'properly'. I have been considering helping him do it and to what extent. We have also been chatting about what might be profitable or not, more hassel or not etc. Are any of you self employed? I have had to declare myself self employed (as well as employed) to do my Avon. Not looking forward to doing my tax return! Am sure it won't be as bad as I am expecting, I just need to get on with it! For me, since I am already self employed I could tag on a few hours helping hubby with paperwork or dabbling myself but not sure how this all works in practice. I need to do some research.

Today should be a NSD hopefully and also tomorrow with a bit of luck (will power). Not done any sale shopping yet :j but I do usually buy gifts and cards/wrap for next year if I see them so will allow myself that. Just nothing for me. I really need some new jeans but will wait and treat myself when I have lost 2 stone. That can be my next goal. I am expecting to have put on over xmas though but hey ho. It will come off again :)

Right back to work. Lunch break nearly over. Looking forward to the January Challenge! Enjoy your day folks x

PurpleJay this is very exciting stuff. I can see why you say you need to research a lot. But it's worth looking into, better to work for yourself and know its all your money and live a super frugal existence for a bit than continue in the rat race. I wish you all the best with it and really really want you to tell us how you get along - each step of the way. Come over to my other thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4205263 and use it as a your sounding board should you wish...

Have you whittled down how much you need to survive against how much you need to thrive? Does your husband re-condition the furniture to sell on? Does he have and eBay shop? How much do you think you could earn by going Avon 5 days a week for 8 hours a day?..I am SO excited for you - must be thrilling to have a husband to work with - like a super money-crunching debt-busting twosome!

I shall stop there and let you fill in all the gaps before I get to excited...

Just been lurking and congratulations Mancman is there a wedding date yet or is that to be decided?

I have managed another nsd today and should manage another one tomorrow as long as I keep my purse in my bag.

    Going now
    Jxx
    £1 a day 2025: £90.00/365 Xmas fund
  • Hello DDD'ers.. just coming in not to confess then I am off to hone the January's challenge..

My little day out was mashed up and I didn't get to do half of what I thought I would. NO visitations to the relations today or my pregnant friend who is exhausted and feeling a little rough...

So I met a friend in town, spent £3.75 on tea and cake and £1.99 on two little writing sets as I am going to fully embrace my "no facebook for 2013" and write to people now and then.

I brought in £38 today through another endeavour and effectively used £5.74 of it and will declare it on an NSD as I balanced out the income/outcome...however the leftovers will enable me to survive until Monday payday and fill the tank with petrol when I get home AND get some food in the house although this will be kept to a serious minimum!

So there you go.. naughty NSK but scraped back so I am not effectively down...YEAH!!!

    Onwards and Upwards...

    Hello everyone

Hope you all had a fab xmas..... we still have man flu here :(

I had been good up until today when my lovely sister took me to York for the day......tut tut

I confess to being in Browns and buying a nice Fossil bag and matching purse... it will be very much used on a daily basis though (i use one bag all day everyday and have to put it down in some undesirable locations at times so its oilcloth) and was 50% off bag and 20% off purse but as she had a discount card for there they gave me another 10% off so got both and some lovely fluffy socks for £70 well chuffed.. but an unexpected spend.

DSs river island order arrived today he didnt like most of it so going back so saving there but i did buy him a nice zara jacket in the sale but will still be quids in when i take his other stuff back at weekend.

Home all day tomorrow and tea at sisters so NSD due also agreed to babysit new year so no expensive night out there :)

Well onward and upward and looking forward to January challenge.....

  • Evening lovely people :)

A NSD for me :j taking the total to 12.

The idea of being self employed with hubby is very appealing. I love the idea of working from home, fitting work in around school runs, maybe getting an allotment once we got the business going to grow our own veggies (our garden is only big enough for salad and herbs in tubs) as I have always wanted to.

Lots of things to think about though. I have worked in local government for almost 25 years and am well and truly institutionalised lol! I get paid reasonably well for working a bit more than half time. I like the people I work with... It's a bit scary to think about giving it up.

Thinking of the Avon, I am sure there is more money to be made if I had more time to give it...

The thing to do is research, plan and then see how we get on. I could even continue my studies outside work...

I keep meaning to have more of a read on your other thread Kat so thanks for the invite, I will pop over.

Will try for another NSD tomorrow.

Lilt I have images of your jellytot ( mummy laughed her head off at this wee name for her - she thinks its very good ) wrapped in Christmas paper with a big grin on her face. I am SO glad you are one of these sensible women who don't buy the littles anything cause they won't remember it..save your pennies for next year!

Your epilepsy sounds a hard thing to deal with - is it still evident now or did it dissipate somewhat with adulthood... sorry if that sounds a really stupid question...

Bonjour all. First to the ^ above, and then onto the rest!!

I am glad your mum enjoyed our nickname for the littlie. Worryingly, she answers to Jelly better than her given name. She has an unusual name (for a girl!) - Elliott Grace. So Elliott became Ellie, became Jelly, and so on. I am glad I'm one of those sensible types too. I had friends say they weren't doing it, but then spend a fortune 'because I feel guilty'. I do not!!!!

There are no stupid questions... My epilepsy was childhood epilepsy & luckily I outgrew it with carefully controlled medication & a lot of luck! Have a few lingering leftovers... I 'zone out' quite a bit sometimes, especially when tired. Still, compared to most; that is a doddle!

    Onwards.....

    Congratulations Mancman!! :T:T:T:T :beer::beer:

I am happy to announce I have completed my NSD challenge!! Better yet, the OH has matched me and so we have 20 NSD's EACH to declare!!

I've asked in the other thread for another 3 NSD's to be added to my total to get to. I am pretty confident we can hit another 3 in the 4 days we have left. It could be 4 but unless I start trying to toast tortillas I may need bread...

I've failed miserably on the exercise. It's tipping it down; miserable, cold and windy on the coast. I have no desire to go out in that in the slightest. Does vast quantities of furniture moving count? I've got my quarterly furniture 'itch' and have moved every single piece of furniture in the house (I'm not kidding) except for the little ladies cot and changing table... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

See ya tomorrow

  • Just popping into say I will hold no-one to the excessive need for exercise. The weather has been so horrid ...furniture pushing / walking around your house - actually if you managed to get off the sofa you get a round of applause from me...

So NSD 18.. should get 2 more in there I think.. well done to those who are close to a nice rounded 20. For those who are way off it... don't stress... there is always next month??..

Right last night in my childhood bed - its not a cot don't worry. Heading to the airport tomorrow via Grannys house to drop her off and get some leather boots that she can't wear cause she got a size too small... fingers crossed they aren't too Granny-style!..;-)...albeit I will take about anything thats free right now...

    Right...bed....
