can I join you as a lurker , with a view to joining the January installment if there is one. We are so skint, our salary has gone on bills and DDs and CCs about 2 days after we receive it so we need to survive on fresh air and store cupboards next month (and the rest of this month to be honest, but I have got my Christmas shopping in at least).
I haven't been this short for years - just a really nasty set of circumstances coming together but I'm sure we'll survive!
Ooooooooooo goody! One more for the cheerleading squad! :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
Welcome! There are a growing number of us who are cheering the DDDs this month with a view to joining in January so you will be in good company. It is a tough time of year isn't it - but its good to have a plan for January :T

I have to buy a particular people soap & laundry brand as we're sensitive wee things (if only you knew what we're like :rotfl: ) but everything else is shop's own, value or whatever works out cheaper when it's on promotion. Value streaky bacon is bought as a dinner ingredient when it used to be a snack in a crusty roll, cakes &/or biscuits only appear for 'special' occasions & we eat so much chicken I'm surprised we're not laying our own eggs!
I want to be ethical. I want to be green. I want--most of all--to be healthy! Just to take one small, insignificant item as an example; when value white rice is eg 40p per kilo compared to brown at £1:78 pk..waddiya gunna do
Thank the stars for nsds is all I can say..currently got 13 in my back pocket so chugging along, just don't ask in which directionYou heard that saying "two steps forward, one step back" well, it's getting close to 1 front & 2 back...

Grr just lost my post:(
Well to start again, I have managed to have another 2 nsd's so Im upto 11 now, not sure where others are coming from but as Im working everyday upto Xmas I hope to get a at least 3 more:) Im actually doing the rest of the Xmas food shopping today, which my DD's are contributing to, so Im hoping that will be it for a couple of days.
Not much has been happening at nannys house. I went the dentist and had a tooth out yesterday am, (it went really well, didnt feel a thing and my mouth isnt sore today either:)) and also dd1, dgd and I went to the hospital yesterday pm to have dgd plaster removed from her leg, so now she just has crutches for the next few weeks, so we are all really pleased about that. I took a flask, sandwiches and mince pies upto the hospital with us so didnt buy anything from @osta coffee, people stared at us but they were probably just jealous:rotfl:but I felt I had the last laugh:)
Anyway thats all I have to report, presents all wrapped and its looks festive in my front room, so glad we all went down the crafty, CS buying route this year, cos everything has been paid for and to be honest I have really enjoyed making things and trawling the CS shops, I will certainly do the same next year:rotfl:

Oh not long now, 6 more sleeps :santa2:, well even just 5 for me as Santa also comes on the 24th :snow_grin.
Today is NSD 12 but tomorrow will be a spend day as we need to get the last groceries before my parents come and stuff for the bathroom. But Friday and the weekend should be NSDs, I hope.
You're all doing really well considering it's the run-up to christmas the spendiest time of the year. :TDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Hi Everyone...
Love reading everyone's posts - they're great!
Having a good day here. Have just come back from an interview which went really well I think. It means taking on more responsibility and will challenge me more - but in the quest for a debt free life - a promotion will get me there quicker and will mean for the next few years I'll hopefully have better prospects. It's going to mean hard work and dedication to my employer but I feel I'm ready for this opportunity! Will hear next week at the latest... Fingers crossed.
Today = NSD number 13 (and up to 5 in a row out of 7) :T
Lemon rice sounds yummy - wonder if i can buy a lemon with my 38p left in my budget ha ha!!!
Pay Day tomorrow - but have budgeted enough for December so I won't be tempted to go into it until January. Having a nice relaxing NSD today and planning on doing nothing!!! Can I count nervous tension pre interview as exercise as it felt like my heart was racing for hours... What about chewing - that must burn some calories lol... and laughing lol lol... that surely must do!!!...
:rotfl:

Good Day Chickadees!!!
Well now I was starting to have MSE withdrawal symptoms and actually woke up with a little freak out and needed to see how you all are!!!
I made it home okay, a lot quicker than first thought.. Mumsy has fed me, the fire is going and I slept in my own wee bed last night. I am planning a very easy NSD today because yesterday was scuppered by having to buy a bottle of water! GRR! (£1.89)
I am down to £70 left until the end of the month which is budgeted for so might have to hope the eBay fairy allows a little more income before payday on the 31st cause Kitty needs petrol for the TWO OVERTIME SHIFTS that I managed to gain on the 29th and 30th. Well chuffed with myself!!! :rotfl: It's official I have no life!
Abundant I think I have the choice of getting paid early but never chose to. Does that mean you have to wait until the end of January to get paid again. I wonder how I can work this into Januarys challenge... its gonna be hard for people I should think!
Thrifty NSD 13 eh!! Well done you! I know its getting SO close to the big DAY. My dad has gone across the country to get an organic turkey from a farmer near my Grannys. It is bought by my Granny and costs £28???? I think this is why I don't get presents. Don't think Granny is an MSE'er either! It usually weighs about 17-18lbs so my body-building brother who insists on two chickens a week has turkey for two months instead!!! :rotfl:
NannyGladys poor you at the dentist this close to Christmas..pain free I hope? I have grown up taking packed lunches everywhere. Buying tea in a shop was only something I started doing in London when I lived on my own. I am amazed though how people turn their noses us at packed lunches or someone carrying Tupperware. I have however been stopped once by someone wanting to know what was in my home-made smootie. I used to carry it to work in a massive tub that was made for soup but had a neck on it so I could drink from it... I added oats to bulk it up so I wouldn't buy food on the way to work.
These people scoffing may scoff and stare. You are on to a good thing in saving money!!!
BigMammaF - I know EXACTLY what you mean about the rice. The white stuff is SO bad for you yet the white is only 40p??? I was so annoyed but as always on a budget and bought it! Why do the supermarkets do this - do you think it's on purpose or the white horrible gloop that we put in our bodies is just cheaper to produce? Hmmmmm worth an investigation I think....
WanttobeSE - your having a day like me. Easy, with tea and bad telly..."Storage Horders" is on at the moment. Always amuses me..
MumsieMum and Gien an official welcome to you both!!! I am sitting everyday now thinking about how to conjure some fun for January and maybe narrow things into 10 easy points. Gien we will help you don't worry... can you make a diary now of where all the pennies have gone though as something needs to change if you are down to pennies at the end of the month! But that's what we are here for!!
Kerri - I have disciples! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Candy - I am SO happy for you!!! This is exactly what I do at the end of year.. get ready for the following in the best way possible and try not to carry any of this year into next..so WOW! And well done to you!!!
Kerfuffle I am SO glad you have decided to clear and discard the CC. These are an invention that should only every be used, as you say if you are able to pay it in full or for a serious emergency but we are all aiming to get at 3-6 months tucked away somewhere for those emergencies aren't we..:T:T:T:xmastree:Well now I am VERY impressed with you all!!! So much so I am added trees:):xmastree:
This is the attitude that I proposed to garner when starting these challenges, embracing minimalism in our lives, relying on ourselves and not Mr CC, pre-planning and knowing where our money is going. This for me, is VERY exciting that everyone is learning a little about these spending habits. I knew I wasn't alone in wanting to rid myself of these dastardly debts and Mumsy has learned that lemon rice is actually quite lovely..:)
Well done folks....

Hi Kat, glad to see you got home safe and sound0

I am currently sat down with the OH working out our budget for EVERYTHING, literally, even down to having to buy additional pairs of climbing shoes at random times in the year. I've managed to convince the OH that when we are both earning (he's a student), that our combined income goes into our joint account and we only spend from each "pot". I've made a spreadsheet and given an estimate of what needs to go into each. This is a first! We've worked out that when he finishes and gets a job we'll have about £500 to put into savings and £500 to pay off his £10k:eek::eek::eek: debt
We know that we should pay off debt before saving, but it's already with a DCA so no additional interest and we're thinking "we best have something in case one of us loses a job"
Loving this thread, I burnt my lemon rice....how do you cook rice??? <<<<can't cook, won't cook here!Diary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:
