I also think it's rude not to acknowledge something nice that someone has done for you.
My little boy has Aspergers Syndrome and struggles with social mores, we have had a long hard job teaching him right and wrong and good manners and what is appropriate behaviour.
When we have battled hard and he stands there and holds doors open for people and stands to let an older person sit down and gets no thanks or acknowledgement then I have another battle to explain that unfortunately there are some people whose manners are not what they should be.
Please, if a child does something good mannered then please acknowledge it? It may be a child with the problems my son has and one little word can make all the difference to their lives.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Manners cost nothing so it doesnt kill someone to say thanks.
My mum used to say "All contributions gratefully received"! If noone said thankyou. She was a bit of an extrovert.
It works both ways in shops though.
When the shop assistant says hello and the customer just holds out their item in stony silence and then hands over their money and walks away, that is just as bad.
I always think how rude it is when being served in shops to answer your mobile phone. A person can be cut off in mid sentence because the customer just turns away and starts talking to the phone.I never answer mine until im finished what im doing.
Talking of old people though, about a week ago in poundland there was a large queue waiting on 2 tills. An old man just walked upto the just vacated till and paid for his stuff while a whole queue watched him do it LOL
I think he would have been so embarassed if he had realised:D0 -
I like to think we are doing a good job under difficult circumstances, and yes a positive response does help a great deal.
Plus it's a lot less embarrassing for me when he receives a thank you as he doesn't turn to me and ask in a very loud voice why that person was so rude.
It's a lot harder to explain why you don't say "Well duh!!" when I am asked if I know my pin number at a till.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Yeah it really pees me off when you hold the door or allow someone - anyone - to pass or they rush through the opposite direction without even acknowledging you as if you are invisible, let allow a nod or word of thanks. And yes, they are usually old enough to know better.0

old people used to annoy the hell out of me when i was at school. We had numerous assembly lectures about being polite and quiet etc on the bus to and from school as they'd had complaints from ederly people.
I'm sure they used to do it on purpose, we started school at 9am and finished at 3:45 so why did they insist on getting on the bus at that time? they had all !!!!!! day to go shopping but no !! it was never good enough they couldn't go home at 3:30 on an empty bus they had to wait till they knew it'd be full of school kids.0 -
Scheming Gypsy, listen and learn...you're gonna be old one day too...it must be such fun winding the little yappy brats up and getting away with it cos you're old...that's one thing I am defo looking forward to...0

Anyone, old, young or somewhere in between who hasn't got any manners is not a nice person, I always make a loud comment about rudeness. If a shop assistant can't say please & thank you I can shop elsewhere and I will. If someone lets me out at a junction a wave of acknowledgement doesn't cost anything and a smile doesn't break the bank.0

How do you respond to the kind gentleman in the car with a breakfast bar on the back that gives you one finger telling which I believe means your are no 1 when he finally stops tail gating you on a 30mph raod and overtakes at 60 mph.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

No its definitely a breakfast bar:rolleyes: . You could get a couple of stools under there. What is it with men and dressing up. Why add a skirt to your car - are they harbouring some secret fettish
One road I travel on everyday is a busy 30mph dual lane road. Left hand lane is for straight ahead, right hand lane for traffic turning off to the right. Everyday you have male drivers weaving in and out of lanes trying to get one car ahead and tailgating every car in front. If they see a clear stretch they are foot down and away to go until...................the speed camera BRAKE BRAKE BRAKE 20mph (why so slow I don't know do, they think the camera records their slow speed and they will get brownie points for it). Its a static camera, they know its coming - why????? Meanwhile all the 30mph drivers have caught them up~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Yeah you got me - it couldn't be an old person because I would have said they would have been wearing a hat, with a couple of scatter cushions on the rear shelf:p Also I don't think they buy cars with anymore than 2 gears as they don't like waste and they just wouldn't use them :rotfl:
I know I know this will be me one day. Can't wait to get the hat, quite liked the second one Duchy Camilla wore today. What do you think - suitable for driving in?;)~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
