What worked for you in the end???0

*sigh* unfortunately I wouldn't recommend it as a viable option ....
I was taken ill and one of my symptoms mean I literally couldn't keep anything (food, water or cig) down without having the most horrendous retching fits
6 days later I was admitted to hospital
By the time I came out 10 days later, I decided I'd done the really hard bit (as now hadn't had one for over 2 weeks!) and it seemed obvious to try to keep it up - I still wasn't that well at that point so it was OK.
When I was feeling better I did get the usual "oh I'm OK, lets have a cig" thought .... but I'd been stopped around 5 or 6 weeks by that point so it would've been just stupid to start again!
(but I do get a bit ..... well, I never had "the last cig" ..... smokers will get that!)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Wish mine would realise that.
Having a confusing day trying to sort out Accident and Sickness Cover and Critical Illness. Suddenly feeling very vunerable being in debt with no insurances .
So Hopefully we will have:-
£875 Per month cover for hubbys Accident & Sickness for 24 months.
(not an ideal amount but would cover mortgage. I would have a shortfall of £926. But I would have to get a job and hopefully I could cut back even more.) Had to go on hubby last Tax Return which was crummy.
125k Joint Critical Illness Policy until aged 65
I only wanted to pay £30 per month max and 125K is what cover came for that amount.
200k Life Insurance (Level term till 65years old)
If either of us died tomorrow we would pay off mortgage and have 80k left over to pay debts and get life sorted before money runs out. Stays at 200k forever so the older we are the more spare cash we will have.
Hoping this is enough cover to keep us out of the doodoo if the worst happens.
Not overly happy with the £875 per month cover, more realistically would be £1500 per month. But they will only take hubbys wages after expenses, and we always keep our expenses high to kill of the tax payments .
I figured any money is better than no money in those circumstances.
Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.0 -
I don't know where we would have been now without the critical illness cover I took out on our motgage, so I highly recommend having some cover....
BUT
Soooooo much isn't covered by policies so please go through it with a fine tooth comb before agreeing to it. For example, DH had a motorbike accident (not covered) causing a Severe Brain Injury (not covered), however because scans showed he had damaged his brain in the same place a Stroke would occur, we were 'lucky' and they paid out on 'stroke like conditions'. Any other place in the brain and we may not have got the payout. Similarly, they got out of paying the whole mortgage on a technicallity and a date being wrong by a few weeks. Those 5 weeks cost us £26k and mean we are not mortgage free like we should be.
On top of this our unemployment cover was not valid as DH was not fit to look for work, but he was only unemployed as his work terminated him because he couldn't work after the accident!!
Do get cover if you can afford it, but get the right cover or you'd be better off putting your money in a savings account!
Also, can you get it through a cashback site??Debts @ LBM £23,729.31. Debts @ 08/04/2016 £0 :j

I have one .... it's highly unlikely to ever pay out on sickness (did look at it after getting home from hospital) as my disease is an ongoing pre-existing condition (that I've had for donkeys years & way before the policy) and they'd be likely to get out of paying for anything else as they could say it's a related condition
I'm really only keeping it for the redundancy side of things TBH .....
Mine only covers £450 / month - again, nowhere near what my outgoings are but it was the most I was willing / able to pay each month & would cover the absolute essentials - if I was made redundant I should get the interest paid on the mortgage so it would cover the different, my various insurance premiums (I have a lot of these!) & Gas & Elec, Broadband & Phones ....
If I get through the round of redundancies this year, I may cancel it (I said that last year ... and the year before too!)please-let-me-be-lucky wrote: »Soooooo much isn't covered by policies so please go through it with a fine tooth comb before agreeing to it. Oh lordy .... what an awful thing to happen & you're so right about the technicalities of it all.
I'd love to move mine to a new provider but the redundancy option (which is really why I've got it now - see above) would be excluded as most have clauses about there having been redundancies where you work / you "reasonably" knowing that it might happen - and there have already been redundancies where I work so ... I'm stuck with it!:(Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Just to make it even more relevent to this thread, the date that was wrong related to when DH stopped smoking. The form said "I have not smoked for 12 months or more", but when they did their digging they found he had visited the Dr for advice on stopping smoking '10 months and 3 weeks' before signing the form, not 12 months before!! XxDebts @ LBM £23,729.31. I have been grilling the poor people in the call centres all day on the different issues.
Hubby had a visit to the Dr 4-5 years ago regarding back pain, so I want them to make sure they cover his back in the policy otherwise if he has recurring back issues I don't want that to be excluded.
I recieved a phone call from PMI insurance which is the provider of the gocompare website. They have offered us a better Accident & Sickness policy. Its so much nicer chatting it through with someone rather than completing an online form.
£1000 per month payout after 4 weeks for a maximum of 24months. It is valid until he is 65 years old and can claim more than once.
The monthly premium is £26.99.
They asked hubby millions of questions and are hoping to underwrite his past back problem without any issues.
Have made sure we were SUPER accurate and above board with the questions so that hopefully there is no get out if we claim.
Not going to get any cashback on this insurance as I could'nt find them on Quidco or TopCashback but they were the best policy.
I have taken out a Critical Illness today which will hopefully payout £50 in M&S vouchers fingers Crossed.
Wow what a busy day. My head is swimming.
Hopefully I have us as covered as we possibly can be now. Can't afford anything else
Thanks for your help and advice ladies xx0 -
I had a FIRST today:-
I noticed the postman had been and I was'nt terrified of what might have come through the door :T:T:T.
I still have the odd reminder coming in, but I KNOW I have budgeted for them and it is under control.
Such a nice feeling. I used to be terrified of the post and phone calls.
