    Morning Steph :)

Did you hear back from your friends about not buying kids birthday presents? That would be a good idea if everyone agrees :T
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Ohhhhh you've spurred me on to do the huge pile of ironing I've got lying ...... just haven't felt the errrrr urge to do it :oand the dog absolutely hates the iron so I've been putting it off for that reason too .....

Right - will dig out the iron & board & go and get the pile - hopefully I've got a film on sky+ that I can watch while I do it!

Good idea re your BF and the kids presents ... I did that a few years ago as several of my pals have 2 or 3 kids so I ended up spending a fortune - which I couldn't afford - fingers crossed they're happy too :)
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • Your shopping trip yesterday made me chuckle! I know exactly what you mean. Do you have a Home Bargains nearby? (or similar). I do my 'big' shops at major supermarkets but all snacky stuff (treats, cakes, biscuits) I buy once a month from Home Bargains and usually £15-£20 of crap lasts the entire month.

I was amazed that the Hovis loaf I normally buy is £1.35! I just couldn't bring myself to pay it, so bought value bread rolls for 40p instead.

    Hi Housework Fairy

Never heard of Home Bargains?, What is it like?. An Ald1?

We have Ald1 but its a 20 mile round trip, so am saving that until I have more available money so I can afford to do a monthly shop there to get the cheap bits they do so well at.

I must admit, I stopped buying bread over 2 years ago (My last LBM :o) as we used at least 1 loaf per day which added up to over £30 per month

I decided to invest in a Panasonic breadmaker (£100 :o) but it has more than made its money back as the HM loaves only cost me 35p each.

Might be worth thinking about if you can spare the outlay on the machine.

    Hi Zepsgal,

success :T. Both friends agreed, one was a little snippy, but she is very easily upset anyway so not surprised. I also forgot another friend that I usually buy for her 3 children as well so thats a total saving of £15 x 18 = £270 :T:T:T.

Its silly anyway. We set a £15 limit each, swap presents, the presents are often stuff my children and probably their children don't really want so its pointless.
I would rather spend some of that money on buying my own children something they want or crazy me, something for hubby and me as we NEVER get presents.

This year it will definately not get spent and just get soaked up into the bills :j.

    Have a great weekend xx

    Hi Rising

Glad I have inspired you :)

I must admit, I don't mind ironing if I have something decent to watch on the telly. I also sit down to iron which hubby thinks is hilarious :o. I sit in the middle of our 3 seater so I can lay the ironing in piles around me. I don't see the point of havinh to stand up for the hours and hours it takes (I am not a quick Ironer)

    Good luck xxxx

    :T:T Brilliant news!

All done!:D Have got a load of films on sky+ to watch!

How on earth do you iron sitting down?

Does your ironing board go really low?

Home Bargains is a lovely store, it's just a discount store and sells cheap gifts, foods, cleaning stuff, alcohol, pop, cards etc but they sell a lot of branded stuff, which costs a lot more in the supermarket - for example, a 500ml bottle of pepsi max will only be 39p, a packet of galaxy mini roll will be 79p (at least £1.20 in morrisons unless they're on offer where it's 2 for £1.50 - that kind of thing). I got some Typhoo tea bags 40 for 79p yesterday and they were £1.19 in Tesco - teabags aside, just little luxuries that you would probably bypass in the supermarket.

With regards to the breadmaker, although I adore home made bread, we only get through 1 large loaf PER WEEK so it wouldn't be cost effective. I think I need to start buying whoopsied bread and freezing it

Hehe Housework Fairy, What is Whoopsied Bread??:):):). Home Bargains sounds like a great place. I might Go0gle them to see where my nearest store is.

Eugh, hubby has done his back in:(. We mucked out the turkey shed a couple of days ago and something twinged in his back. He annoyingly insisted on going to skittles last night and now he is hobbling around, asking me to rub Deep Heat into his back.

We are meant to be at a party tonight and I am trying to persuade him that we should'nt go. The last thing I want is him being off work next week. It would blow my budget to pieces.

It has spurred me on to look into Accident & sickness Insurance for him. Have meant to get it in the past, but always dithered because they will only cover 50% of your weekly wage which with all our debts isnt really enough to keep us out of trouble. but i have decided today that even 50% would be better than nothing, and maybe I could make up some of the other 50% by getting a supermarket job in the evenings or something.

I went through Topcashback so should hopefully get £48.48 back from the insurance. :T

I need to check with them that hubbys back will be covered. He has'nt been to the Drs about it for over 4 years, but does that mean that he would NEVER be able to make a claim on ANY back related issued? there is a thousand things that can go wrong with your back over the years.

I am just cooking the last batch of Sausage rolls for tonight. although if we don't go to the party I think the kids will have sausage rolls in their lunch boxes all week ;)

    )

It's just marked-down bread, because it's on the use-by date, or someone has sat on it :rotfl::rotfl:

Hope your hubby's back is better soon and he can get back to work. I know how you feel as I'm semi-experiencing that situation at the moment although hopefully I'm just being a drama queen

Why not ask your question on the insurance board?

Haha well I have learnt something new. Never heard of Whoopsied stuff.:rotfl:

Hubby's back is feeling a little better today, so fingers crossed he will be fine for work next week. Might get him an appointment at the Drs just in case.

Have read up about accident & sickness insurance and it looks like PHI permanent health isnsurance is better. Going to try and get a quote of a broker somewhere, the crappy insurance was £31 per week so not sure we can afford any super duper cover but will wait and see.

Not much going on today, got a leg of lamb to roast and need to sort out kiddies PE bags for school. Chill out day.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday xx
