Whatever way you look at it, downsizing will free up capacity in Social Housing, which will relieve pressure on the waiting list and provide the opportunity of secure accommodation to those in housing need.
How are they in housing NEED, if they are already housed?0 -

The facts are out there. Fill ya boots!0 -

You don't think a wheelchair user in a first floor maisonette could possibly be in housing need? How about a family of 6 in a 2 bed flat, a family threatened with homelessness, a family that needs to move to provide care and support to a relative, a family who cannot afford their rented/mortgaged property after the loss of a job, someone fleeing domestic violence, a family whos home is due to be demolished, a young mother leaving care, a family leaving supported accommodation, etc etc etc.0 -
Trouble is some of us are approaching this on a personal local level and others taking an overall national view. In my area, and the CBL here is a joint 5 authority system, there is plenty of 1 bed property social and private...getting maybe 1 or 2 bids. In fact if you want to go private there is no limit...there's a huge surplus. The demand in the social sector is for 2 or 3 bed and unless you're in the top 2 bands of our 6 band priority system, its not worth bothering to bid, except to show that you're still in the market. If you want a BIG one bed flat in an old Victorian mansion, come to Merseyside. Plenty of 2 beds as well in the private sector. But the social sector...sod all 2 bed unless you're emergency priority or in a family with your own personal social worker from the day you were born.0

This week alone, there are 3, 1 bed units available within approx 10 miles of your front door. Took me 5 minutes to find, and I only looked in NE Derbyshire. That's just this week, remember?

Sounds like this policy change will do wonders for the local housing market there. Just what the good Doctor ordered!0 -

It's available to bid on this week and took me 2 minutes to find.

There's also a rather nice looking 2 bed house in Shirebrooke going for just £2 over the 1 bed LHA rate. Save some money AND have a spare room??? The CHOICE is yours.
