Hi,
Spends so far this month £26.50, hopefully added to signature.
Quick question, do you reckon it's cheaper to buy say, a large chicken/gammon and use this for sandwich meat? I often spend in excess of £6 per week on meat slices for lunches

Sorry not familiar with this food slicer, but thought all decent ones included a reliable safe guard and really wouldn't be without my Kenwood slicer, saves me loads of money and helps the waistline. helps my Arthy joints etc.Slimming World at target0 -
My aunty and my sister both have those electric knives and reckon they slice meat really well. They slice it tidy (am stuck for the right word) and you get thinner slices so the joint goes further. I'm still at the hacking lumps off with a kitchen knife stage myself, sigh.0

I bought a food slicer and nothing wrong with it but it does require careful handling! Although there is the pusher etc for slicing I nearly took my finger off when I had finished with it. Just cleaning the worktop I just brushed my hand on the blade somehow-bearing in mind it is a circular saw in all but name!!!
DH had to bandage me up and my fingernail saved my finger!
I now close the thin up totally as soon as I finsh with it rather than leaving it open ready to clean and nobody else is allowed to use it(nor wants to)It really is for VERY careful adults only-treat it like a power tool!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
I started off really well the beginning of the month, I did a large weekly shop and spent just under £100. I then had 3 NSD and had to pop into Mr T to get one item and spent £31.89 on food stuff I didn't really need. Then today my daughter needed a plain white t-shirt for her dance competition and I did exactly the sme again only this time I spent £27.96, some of it was food for Christmas week though so hopefully the month will balance its self out0

I hope I don't get stoned but I CAN'T do the grocery challenge for December. Hubby is coming back from overseas and I will be spending on goodies such as a duck for Christmas Day. We have a birthday and a wedding anniversary. We also have a family reunion to celebrate a wedding and baby in the family and we are suppose to bring something to the event.
I will try to keep the budget around £300 but don't think I can do it for less.
Sorry, I feel like such a wimp...:p
You most definitely wont get stoned on this thread. I have been here for 18 months challenges now and have never seen a judgmental or in any way nasty post on here.
Don't worry about the challenge and just enjoy the time with your family. if you go a bit over so what, You certa\inly shouldn't feel like a wimp, and anyway with a new baby in the family who ever sticks to a budget.:jHugs loveSlimming World at target0 -
This week's shop is now done to make use of our final Daily Mirror Ald* voucher which had to be used today. Doubled up on essentials so I will should only need fruit and veg next week. I have done a meal plan up to the weekend before Christmas and I am hoping that I will only need a few fresh bits and pieces before then which should leave enough budget to cover all our entertaining of family of friends over Christmas.
Total spend was £40.20.
PPxxOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.
Mortgage neutral achieved August 2020 - 7 years early!!!0 -
£6.00 or so spent in Mr S tonight on some beer for DH and 2 tins baked beans. I will check my receipt and tot up my total over the weekend.
Couldn't resist the chippy tonight so that is another £5.60 to add:o
I have a really busy weekend with lots of college work, a Christmas party and an interview to prepare for so DH has offered to do the food shop tomorrow as he has taken a day off to use up his holidays. This will be the first time he has ever done a weeks shop on his own and I will send him with a list but I am :eek:at just how much he may spend without thinking about it.:eek:Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.750 -
Well we are having an unplanned spend today. We didn't go out at all yesterday, and the kiddies need to get out but DS still isn't 100%. We've been invited out to dinner on Sunday and I'm taking pudding. So we need to go get something I can make for a lot of people! (8+).
And I want to get some medical supplies for DS, who has helped me construct a list and decided he now wants Xmas decs for the playroom. I'll also post some cards and get a few Xmas food bits. We go to my aunts on boxing day and I usually take pât! and part-baked rolls for the buffet.
So technically, it's just early spending, not extra spending. :rotfl:Bossymoo
Away with the fairies :beer:0 -
I'm finding that I'm eating better by doing the grocery challenge. I've bought and cooked proper food and haven't bought any junk. I usually make my own fairy cakes for my son, but "treats" were starting to appear in the trolley for me. That's stopped thankfully and long may it last.
Me too Cranky!
I find I'm actually thinking about what I'm buying and cheaper alternatives instead of mindlessly chucking stuff in the trolley! Long may it last indeed
