The provider is upping standard landline line rental from £13.90 to £14.99 from 1 February.

Its standalone broadband and TV packages will also rise, as well some of its 'collection' packages.

Other than the price of standard line rental, no other call costs are rising.

VM have said in this statement that that they will allow contracts to be cancelled subject to T and C. http://my.virginmedia.com/customer-n...s-to-save.html

    Scroll down to bottom see
"For terms and conditions or other legal stuff, just click here.
If you do not wish to be bound by these changes you can cancel your contract with us without penalty. The process to be followed is set out in our terms and conditions at virginmedia.com/legalstuff
  • HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

received this email today, am still under contract for 6 months - is there any way out of contract as surly this high increase is not allowed at such short notice, does anyone know if i can break my contract?

    received email from virgin:

We wanted to let you know that, from 1st February 2013*, the price of your Virgin Media services will increase by £3.24 a month. It's never nice when prices go up but it means we can continue to give you the best home entertainment and services.

Not sure how 2 1/2 months is considered short notice, but as already explained you can get out of the contract.

You can't do that. You need to wait until you are informed of the price increase, and then reject it in writing on that basis.
If you ask for cancellation today you will be charged a huge ETC.
And you will need a landline reconnecting or installing first if you want phone or broadband services from Sky.

  • so does

"The changes affect new and existing customers, though anyone already on existing special offers will remain unaffected through the course of their agreed discount periods."

mean that if i took out a 6 monthss half price deal, around 6 months ago, i would be unaffected until the 18month min contract is up ?

has anyone challenged them yet... ie, in my case, would they give up 12 months of £53 for the sake of a £3.24 a month price rise? if i was to cancel the contract based on their increase?

No-your 'discount period' ends after 6 month. Any price increases for the balance of the minimum term will apply-unless you reject the increase and leave.

shop around first, virgins bb is good and others wont beat it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Ours is going up by £4.50 per month. Not loads but £45 per month for weekend calls, broadband and the M package of TV with Tivo (a couple of extra sky channels that are rubbish) seems a lot...Or am I wrong and is this a good deal?

They are phoning us back on Monday for what they called a loyalty deal hopefully. Going to possibly downgrade if they don't offer anything decent to all of the above and normal TV channels for £31.90 per month....However new customers get this for half the price for the first six months so why shouldn't we after having a contract with them for three years and not moving like most people?

    Any tips on haggling?

Really glad I read the article.

I've wanted to leave Virgin to say money, but I was contracted until June next year. BT Fibre is now available in my area and is so much cheaper.

I phoned, said I'd read about the increase and I wanted to cancel all services due to the increase (tv, phone and broadband). The lady was very nice and helpful and cancelled it straight away for me - they're picking up the equipment in 30 days.

Its going to save me about £22 a month and I'll get a lot faster broadband. Happy days.

Anyone got any recommendations?, I'd be looking for fibre and obviously the cheaper the better (going to have a look at MS's comparisions now).
