I really can't understand why there's so much grumbling about it. The email wasn't addressed to us personally which set alarm bells off as soon as I read it. Within two minutes of reading it I knew it was a mistake - actually I thought it was spam. We we're sent a retraction email one hour and 20 mins later. Someone on facebook was saying they'd gone out and bought a passport and would be skint for the next few weeks because of it, others they'd spent money on this or that. What a load of ca*p. It was a mistake - get over it!
I personally think Boots have been really generous by giving everyone £10 advantage card points.

I too am appalled by the comments on here! For those "devastated" "gutted" etc I really envy you, because if this is what makes you "gutted" and "devestated" you obviously haven't suffered any real trauma in you life and know what "gutted" and "devastated" really mean. You woke up yesterday morning not going to Barcelona and you woke up this morning not going to Barcelona in between some poor soul hit a wrong button and no doubt is going to be dragged over the coals for it.

YOU DIDN'T WIN.... Now get over it and move on. I suspect we will have less comps from a rather generous Boots for a while whilst they make up for giving out all those tenners.

Disgusting seems a little strong. If she didn't mention it then her disappointment wouldn't make much sense? Although to be honest I'm sure the mail cherry picked what they wanted to use from whatever conversation they had anyway.

Not when you've watched someone lose a full term baby. To use the death of a child in the context of a mistake for a holiday? Nah, that's lower than low

I'm with you. Absolutely disgusting, no excuse for it at all.

Outside of the Troll's comments, I think people are going a little OTT over this. Don't think it's right to call people disgusting for being honest about their stories and grief. Some people's sob stories are true, and if they're relevant I don't see why they shouldn't speak about them. Lol, it's so British to get narked at folks for this type of thing.

And sos, but I don't agree with you VanPop about MSErs being greedy for not wanting to follow your, albeit great, example. People just see things differently. Because you have chosen to be generous, doesn't mean that others are at the opposite end of the spectrum because they don't do the same in this one situation.

Blulu, I really respect you massively but when you have seen a friend lose a full term baby and then see someone using the death of a child in the context of a mistake of a prize holiday I think that's way to far.
A death like that is devastating, missing out on a prize ~ oh well move on to the next. Using them together?

For sure me darlin'. I can see both sides. I know this sounds a daft compare (though I have miscarried, and then couldn't have kids too), but I remember going in for a comp when my young cat was killed. I mentioned it in the email and don't have a clue if it made any diff to winning. But I did win a drawing (the pic in my avatar), and it made such a diff to me re how I felt about my bloomin' cat. What do I know though? I watch the X-Factor and similar shows. Where would they be without the obligatory sob stories - hang on a mo, I think I just proved YOUR point. Oh well, back to the drawing board :D XXX
Your pompous attitude and condescending comments have convinced me that you are very smart and important, said no one ever.

The word "fiasco" seems to be bandied about a lot these days. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was a fiasco. The handling of the allegations against Jimmy Savile was a fiasco. This mistake, albeit an embarrassing one for Boots and a disappointing one for the competition entrants, was just that; A mistake. Not a fiasco, not a c*ck up of monumental proportions, not the end of days, just a mistake.
