I hope whoever sent the emails out still has their job :(

I agree. I know how bulk email sending works and they likely just selected the wrong list name before clicking 'send'. Quite often such sends are carried out by digital marketing agencies who's employees are quite often put under a lot of pressure.

9,000 may sound like a lot but it's not. They can be sent out as quick as you can take a physical letter to your next door neighbour (assuming you live in a terrace house.) So there's no time to correct the mistake before the emails are in your inbox. All you can do once that's happened is get out an apology email ASAP.

I don't know what Boots' marketing budget is but £90k for a big company is not a lot of money. If I was told DFS' marketing budget is £90k a month I would be surprised because I'd expect it to be much higher.

I love you Blulu, so wise and always a good word :D x

Aw you sweet thing. My middle name is 'wise'. Shame my first name is 'Not-Very' XXX
Your pompous attitude and condescending comments have convinced me that you are very smart and important, said no one ever.

The word "fiasco" seems to be bandied about a lot these days. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was a fiasco. The handling of the allegations against Jimmy Savile was a fiasco. This mistake, albeit an embarrassing one for Boots and a disappointing one for the competition entrants, was just that; A mistake. Not a fiasco, not a c*ck up of monumental proportions, not the end of days, just a mistake.

    why? *bangs head on desk*

Aww, I never enter the holiday comps, so I missed out on a free £10. ;):D

Sorry for anyone who told people and got all excited though. :o

Edited to add- I don't really get the charity shaming thing. I know there's probably posts missing by now so it looks worse in isolation, but isn't the whole point of charity that it's voluntary?

I say 10 quid sounds generous. It could have been nothing.

I guess they can be fairly generous because it was only 9000 people..

    every penny goes to charity...

Today my opinion of some of the people using mse has changed, i cannot believe the GREED of some of these people...

If you dont want to donate it to children in need theres many other charities...

I think all the people who said we want compensation - well it doesnt matter they obviously dont care about anybody but themselves.
Today imo a part of mse has died - i didnt realise there were so many greedy nasty people :(

To be fair, you can see how greedy some people are when they go for kids prizes and have no kids, or go in for competitions that they have no interest in the prize.

Each to their own I suppose. To judge is to lower oneself though, so I don't. I just let them get on with it.

This however, was a simple error, Boots offered a little goodwill gesture, nothing to do with greed in my opinion.

just wondering if the £10 worth of boots points is a £10 to spend or the amount of points you would get if you had spent £10 in boots. a big difference. has anyone had the points put onto their balance yet?

    £10 to spend

1000 Boots Advantage Card points (that’s £10 worth) onto your card so you can treat yourself next time you’re in store

    Can you donate boots points?
As in - to a charity?

I am quite happy with a more personal apology and would rather they'd give the £90,000 to a well deserving charity.

It would do a lot more good than a £10 worth of smellies each.

If I can't donate the points i'll buy something nice and take it into a charity shop for them to raffle or something
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!
