I have successfully reclaimed off Halifax, Capital 1, Barclaycard and Birmingham Midshires and they all paid up after the initial letter. However, have tried to reclaim £866 off Beneficial Sterling (a company I had a secured loan with some years ago) and they have replied saying that they are unable to uphold my complaint and reconcile the £866 which I am claiming.

Is this a standard reply that some companies are using? Have prepared to send off the second letter, is this the right thing to do?

Would be grateful for any advice?

It is no longer as easy as it was, you now have to fight for your money. There are too many people claiming now for the banks to respond to a couple of letters with a cheque.

Thanks for that. I'll send off letter number 2 and see what happens.

But wouldn't doing so be simpler, quicker and cheaper for them? I don't expect this argument to cut any ice with them for a yoctosecond, though.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

It all depends on how much they save by the simple expedient of putting off the more weak willed claimant.

Sorry to start another thread but someone did raise this question and now i have lost it.

Does anyone know if you can claim back the penalty charges for car finance?

You can claim back charges on any loan that comes under UK consumer law

Thank for your reply, but this penalty doesnt involve the bank, this is a penalty from the finance company themselves for late payments. Would that be redeemable?
