hi there i have just received a reply from my bank telling me they are looking into the unfair charges and they have told me it could take between 4 weeks to 8 weeks to look into my claim i have read not to let the banks take control of the time scale is this right:confused:

It depends which bank it is, Natwest stick to this 8 weeks just to be awkward & then they usually offer your charges but not the interest, they dont negotiate. Halifax seem to offer around 50% but when you mention going via the courts or the FO they usually up it to all the charges but again without interest. The only way you will get the interest back is via the courts but this is a long process as I have found out.

Give them a ring today & ask them where they are up to with your claim, see what they say & just say you intend to go via the FO/Courts see what they say & then its your choice mate

    Hope this helps

  • I have sent a letter to Barclays claiming £1095 in charges including interest as detailed on here.
The day before their 14days is up I received a letter from them the contents are as follows:-

"May I take this oppurtunity to explain that whilst we will endevour to respond to you withing timescale outlined in your letter, we cannot guarantee that we will do so. sometimes it takes longer to fully investigate a complaint. However we do aim to find a solution within four weeks. If we are not able to do so, we will always write to you explaining what is happening. A full report or an update on our progress will be sent to you within eight weeks."

Now do I wait what could be pottentially 8 weeks???
or do I send a letter to them threatening to go the the Financial Ombundsman unless I receive their responce to my claim within say 7 or 14 days??? (wrote a similar letter when requesting statements and received them almost imediately)

has anyone else come across this with Barclays? if so did you wait? (how long did it take??

    all help/comments apreciated

    Thanks

Hi,, I was wondering if anyone can help me,, I had a letter from the bank saying it was looking into my case and that it could take 6-7 weeks,, 7 weeks is up today (Thursday) I was wondering what sort of letter I can send them,, or are there any template letters for this.

  • Well, TBH I would not have waited 6-7 weeks, as they have now taken back control. I would now write to them, tell them to settle up within the next seven days or court action will commence without further notice. Also remind them that court costs will be added. Head your letter Final notice before Action. Basicially treat them with the same thuggish high handed attitude that they show to you. The secret is all about taking the control back from the bullies and showing them who is boss. And I do speak from experience, I have had refunds from Co-Op Bank, Capital One, Barclaycard, GE Money and Lloyds UDT.

    No more Mr Nice Guy!!

    Good luck

Hi everyone. I'm currently in the process of re-claiming my bank charges from my bank and after sending them a letter threatening to take the matter to court, they have responded back to me advising that due to the complex nature of the case, it may take them 6-7 weeks to respond fully to myself.

This seems like an awfully long time to me.

Does anybody know if I am in a position to reply back to my bank and advise them that 6-7 weeks is not acceptable, or do I have have to wait?

    Cheers guys and gals

You only have to wait if you intend to take the FO route, as that's in the banks' complaint procedures. If you want to file a court claim, ignore their 6-7 weeks. There is nothing "complex" about a bank charges complaint anyway.

  • I am trying to reclaim £810 from Natwest.
I have sent them the letters Martin suggested and i never had any reply`s.
I then emailed them at there customer services and got a reply saying my claim had been verified and i would receive an offer letter within days. This was 3 weeks ago now and ive heard nothing more.
I sent them another email yesterday saying i didnt receive the letter and i want them to tell me via email what the offer is.
But i dont really want to wait another week for a reply, i want to put in the money claim today and claim the extra interest from them aswell.
Can i do this or do i need to wait for there response?
Please help me as im new to all this and am getting very stressed!

    Many thanks,Donna
