Hi everyone,
I too have been advised by my bank that it will take them 6-7 weeks to investigate my claim....i'm claiming approx £4000 from NatWest.
The general concensus on here seems to be that this is a stalling tactic by the bank and that if people such as myself receive such letters from their bank(s), they should proceed with their claim.
However, i'm not sure what my next step would be in this instance. I've been following the letters on the MSE.com site thus far, and wonder if I should now send my own letter advising my bank that I expect full settlement from them sooner than this (say, within the next 14 days?).
If anybody has suggestions for me, they'd be gratefully received.

If you want to use the Financial Ombudsman procedure to claim your charges then you must follow their time scale
If you intend to take it to court, get your money faster, and charge interest then stick to your time scale. Once you have started court action you are in a far better position to get them to pay out in FULL. I’ve just been offered 152% of my claimed charges!

Many thanks for your reply. I intend taking the matter to court, so i'll write to my bank and advise them that I believe 6-7 weeks is excessive and expect full settlement within 14 days of my letter. In the meantime, i'll take the first steps in taking the matter to court.
Once again, thanks for the advice.:o0 -

hi people, i recieved a letter today saying Thank you for your recent letter regarding the fees applied to your account. We are currently considering your claim. Given the work involved in assesing your claim we anticipate that we will be in a position to respond within 6-7 weeks, but will endevour to do so sooner if we are able to. Question is should i wait or what, any advice would be good. cheers

NatWest are part of the RBS group and if you read the Success stories and both threads you'll find that many users have found if you give the bank the 7/8 weeks they ask for you will then get an offer of your full claim.
Nothing to stop you writing or phoning during this time to ask how your claim is progressing and as to when you might expect an offer.0
