Royal Mail Recorded Delivery Signed For Naughty Postman...............

A couple of weeks ago I had something sent to me last week 'signed for'. I was out when the postman came and when I returned it had been put through my letterbox. I was pleased to have received it but the sender had paid for a service they didn't receive and if he had put it through the wrong door by mistake who knows if I would ever have received it.0

I recently sent a parcel via RM 1st Class Signed-for service. I took a bit of a chance because I was returning an item to the supplier for credit that was worth just over £100, and RM recommend 1st Class Special Delivery for full compensation if they lose it. The tracking for my parcel was just Signed-for, but no signature was forthcoming. After the obligatory eleven days I was about to put in my claim to RM for the maximum £50, but checked my Visa statement first. That very morning the supplier has credited the amount due. It had been delivered after all. Huge relief!
Three morals to this story: 1) Read up on RM's delivery options beforehand rather than make a hasty decision at the PO counter; 2) A postie's signature would have been better than no signature at all; 3) Given you can't trust anyone to get the simplest aspects of their jobs right, you need to make copies, take photos etc in anticipation of something going wrong.0 -
98% of time my Royal Mail deliveries have been ok, so have been "lucky"..
It is getting more frequent now that the delivery man doesn't ring the doorbell and I only get the "sorry we missed you" cards, happened again today.
I had arranged re-delivery, for some reason RM tried to deliver it couple of days ago, so just in case re-booked re-delivery again (again for today) only for the postie to quietly slip the "Sorry we missed you" note through the door while I was sitting only few feet away. (And yes, the door bell works!) Didn't even hear the mailbox rattle even though it's normally very noisy and can hear it upstairs.
Also couple of years ago RM left a note to say they had tried to deliver a signed for delivery. Checking online the delivery was signed for (not by me). Never found out for sure what that letter was, but think it was for a jury duty letter that was then promptly pushed through my letterbox a day later with a recorded for sticker on it. On querying it with RM they never could provide an answer to me.0 -
Hi, I'm new to the site and would just like to warn people.
In November my parents posted an envelope in the UK addressed to me in s/Ireland. The envelope contains Christmas cards and £200 of hard earned money for my family for Christmas. The lady behind the counter in the post office asked if the envelope contained cash, my mum told her what was in it and she said it would cost extra to register the envelope because it contains cash. My mother agreed and paid the extra on top of the usual registered mail price for the extra security. A couple of days later I checked the tracking number and it says it is at Heathrow for onward delivery. It hasn't been seen since, we keep checking and it doesn't change. My mother went to the post office where she posted it and they said it definitely left, she also said sometimes things get held for a while before being flown over. It's now been a month and still no change. My parents have submitted an online
claim form for the missing item, the response is they haven't submitted appropriate evidence for what was sent so they might not compensate for it. This is why my mother paid the extra fee because it was cash. We have only put a claim in because of their thieving staff. This has also happened to me in the past when an elderly family member sent a few pound at Christmas, this one wasn't tracked, the opened cards arrived and the money was taken. I think it's about time royal mail sorted out there service. I'm totally disgusted with their service, asking for extra money and still don't want to honour it. :mad:0 -
£200 cash was never covered anyway, the limit is £100 for overseas tracked and signed.0

The item has gone missing, you have no evidence that it has been stolen.
You might want to explain to your family that sending cash by post is always a very bad idea, as you have no way of verifying what was sent, or of cancelling/ replacing it if it goes astray.0 -

There’s no reason to send cash anymore anyway, with instant bank transfers and things like PayPal I don’t understand why anyone would take the risk, especially when it costs more to send via a fully insured method than any online transfer fee would ever be.
Also strange that they would send £200 to Ireland (I’m assuming the S/ is for south, meaning Republic of Ireland as opposed to Northern Ireland) when they use the Euro so they would also end up with exchange rates to pay. I’m not surprised RM want some evidence of the contents.0 -
Why do the staff in the post office say you can and charge extra for it.0

The tracking shows it was never delivered0

It's OK saying about bank transfers and such but when you're not computer literate it's not so easy which is why they would still send cash. And yes it would be changed to euro. Whether it was cash, postal order or just a card, they should be doing more to stop items from being stolen. At least some !!!! would have had a good Christmas.0
