I have little confidence in the security afforded by Special Delivey services.

A friend of mine ordered some expensive small items and the were sent by Special Delivery, which includes insurance for loss. The items didn't arrive. When she queried this, she was told they had been delivered. She got a copy of the signature, and it was a name she didn't recognise at all.
However, she was told that, because there was a signature, as far as they were concerned, the items had been delivered. There was nothing she could do about it, and no compensation for the value of the items.

So what is the point of paying Special Delivery prices for valuable items? They'd probably be safer going by ordinary First Class post.

    Wheat system would you devise?
The 'new' PDAS allow a GPS fix on the delivery track point.
The entire nature of postal delivery places a level of trust on delivery staff.
    So what is your solution?

So if delivering to a block of flats the gps fix would be the same? or to a address next door(gps isnt perfect)

Having had a final cheque from old council for housing benefit go missing, and a boxset I got from Ebay go missing and about twice a week I get no letters at all etc I have little trust in local posties.

In a multiple occupancy its never going to be perfect.
However many problems with flats and deliveries relate to poor numbering/address/access arrangements.

In my building everyone has a normal number ie 1.2 3 4 5 6 X Street not 1a, 1b, 1c.1d. 1e.1f X street so no confusion should arise PLUS my name is on the door and number on wall beside it, if couriers can find the flat no problems, takeaway drivers can find it then why not RM?

Plus with me I live under half a mile from the sorting office.

Not sure why there are 5 pages of debate. The sender (not recipient) has entered into a contract with Royal Mail to deliver the letter and get it "signed for by the receiver".

If this doesn't happen then RM haven't upheld their side of the contract.

I know my partner had a few problems with this service and was told by Royal Mail they want people to let them know what is going on , if you don't tell them they don't know as they can contact the delivery office and track who delivers the letter on that round,as far as the length of time all my partner did was ring their complaints dept and spoke to someone and his compensation was given straight away.
