Open Water Swimming. Though unless you invest in a wetsuit, it's not the time of year where people typically take up this pasttime.

I enjoy reading & writing poetry & short stories. I'm rubbish at crafting as I've no patience at all & want everything done yesterday, however, even I can make decent-ish cards & it's quite therapeutic. Many hours are spent comping on here. It's quite addictive & it's great when you win. I'd go with learning a language too as I tend to learn a bit of basic when going off on holiday, then it's forgotten. My real secret passion that I do on an almost daily basis is searching for holidays, this brings me such joy :o I can learn quite a bit about different countries & get the best bargains too.

My main hobby is card making, although I do more crafty stuff like making boxes and things

Scrapbooking is also something I am beginning to do although I confess I spend more time looking on the internet for ideas rather than getting on and doing my own

I have also done some cross stitch which I do like but find it very time consuming.

Things I want to do more of are getting out on the bikes and walking. I love walking but it's something we rarely do much so now winter is here on good days I am going to wrap up and get myself into the Country. I also want to learn a foreign language

Interesting post! Its something that i have been thinking about recently.

I have decided to look into taking up astronomy - just starting with the basics. My OH is getting me a telescope for xmas - havent decided what to get yet thought - seems to be quite a lot of info out there!

I have always enjoyed gazing at the night sky...having a little one limits free time during day light hours...so this seemed a perfect hobbie to dedicate sometime too.:)

Astronomy is a great hobby and all you need to start is a pair of eyes. Binoculars are great too.

When it comes to buying a telescope quality is everything. Even in the most expensive scopes some objects are little more than fuzzy blobs imagine how bad they look through cheap glass!

Join a society or at least visit one and go to a few stargazing events so you can look at and, more importantly, through a selection of scopes so you know what you're up against.

Don't be tempted by some of the claims in adverts and don't get hung up on magnification you'll only end up with something so bad it will put you off for life or leave you with the realisation that you've wasted your money and need something different.
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.

I love wild swimming. It's one of my favourite things to do. :D

I also love reading, I don't really consider it a hobby, just a vital part of daily life.

I have pets that take up a good part of my time, and a micro business which can take half an hour or an hour a day or twenty hours if I am not careful.

I also enjoy: gardening, music, cooking (in a way more complicated than just feeding ourselves) and foraging for cooking. I am going to try and reignite my interest on things like sewing, as my house needs some blinds and curtains now.

I like doing creative things, writing, etc, but am wary of getting too 'crafty' as I don't want a house full of third rate stuff I feel emotionally invested in but don't actually adore.

I keep meaning to take an adult ed course, but every time I am about to something happens. I would like to get in the habit of doing a course or two each year.
  • I don't have many hobbies. The main way I like to fill my time is reading, using the internet, playing the odd video game, and spending obsessive amounts of time on RightMove. I like to look at recipes, but I wouldn't say that cooking was a hobby as 95% of the dishes I cook are the same week in- week out. I take my dog out for walks daily, and I suppose he is a bit of a hobby.

I like astronomy, and years ago I spent quite a bit of money on a decent telescope. Unfortunately, I live in an area with a fair bit of light pollution, so haven't used it as often as I like. :(

I read on the Net that the cheaper strings were difficult to keep in tune so got some Acquila ones off ebay, at the same time picked a mid-market tuner, a Cherub wst-550u uke mate.. I shopped around and paid about £30 for the Uke so can't go far wrong in taking a chance.
I've always wished i could play something but just never had the time to learn. Now here i am at 59 watching youtube videos of 8yr olds showing how it's done.
How long does it take before i can have groupies throwing their knickers at me.
    Thanks Jojo

Not sure about that bit, but if you do decide to join a group, you could be finding it much easier after about 4 sessions, so about 12 hours. By easier, I mean you'll be doing some of the changes without even thinking about them.

(Oh, and if every time you practice - and ten minutes a day is more than most people would do - you actually stop as your fingertips begin to tingle, you'll build up the skin over time so you don't feel like you've shredded them, although using Acquilas does make it easier on your fingertips compared to the cheapies, some of which feel square and sharp to the touch.)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

You were saying you wanted something that you can immerse yourself in, well my daughter does roller derby and her and all the girls involved are absolutely obsessed with it.

It is an all girl sport and my daughter is busy all the time with the sport and all the extra friends she has made. They are a great bunch and have such a good time. It is also excellent exercise.

I LOVE this idea, I've just found my local group and emailed them :rotfl:

My hobbies involve eating, this has involved learning to cook (of sorts) and also working my way through menus of a few local eateries. I find this hobby suits me as if I want something sweet, savoury, sticky or snacky I can make it or know what to order, I spend ages looking at recipes and reading food blogs. This also means that I don't end up with a huge stock of craft/hobby items just a core staple list. My favourites is full of food. I tried pintrest but I get irritated logging into sites, the internet cookies are the only ones I've found I don't like :D
