My hobbies are printmaking, making jewellery, sewing, reading, forums (run one as well as visit several regularly) a bit of photoshop, and any other arts and crafts that catch my eye - I'm always making or designing something. I'm also interested in design, interiors, furniture, architecture, recycling, thrift, the seaside, fashions, modern cultural history.
Past hobbies have included collecting various things, aqua aerobics, a spot of photography, cookery/baking, pets, music, films, computer games, a few sports, shopping.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -

It's just time that makes it possible to form the chords properly - if you have small hands, admittedly, the soprano uke is the best choice, but if your hands are large (and your fingers quite chunky), sometimes the better option is to go for a concert uke instead - same chord shapes, just bigger. A few guys I play in a uke group with have done that. One has gone for a baritone uke instead - but that was more to be awkward than anything else
- and you can get the awesome bass ukes.
If you play with a group - like in a pub meetup - you'll learn far more quickly than sitting at home with the books, if nothing else because you'll be sitting opposite people who can give you hints on making the changes or, for example, playing the dreaded E chord inverted -
(instead of playing the second fret of the A string and struggling to fit on the 4th fret of the GC and E, just barre the 4th fret with your index finger and then use your ring finger on the 7th fret of the A string instead)
- which also makes far more sense when you're shown it
and the books tend to have the most unergonomic notions of chord structure. I know that's not a word, but you get the idea.
Thanks for that Jojo,
I think it's a soprano i've got. A Mahalo LesPaul. I've only got small hands and up to now been watching YouTube and bought the Dummies Uke book. I looked on the internet and there's a pub about 8mls away that has Uke nights, i've not been but thought it maybe a better option on their webpage it says everyone is welcome, even the Dummies.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

My hobbies are mainly reading either books or Internet. Research of anything that takes my fancy. Gardening (mainly pots). Photography -really enjoy photographing my dogs and nature.
Not a hobby as such, but I like to spend lots of time with friends and family as that makes me happy as does walking my dogs. My favourite place is Croome park nr where we live. We spend hours there some weeks.
Xx
I live fairly close to there ..a lovely place to walk the dog , I will also often drop in for a cuppa if I fancy an hour to myselfNumber 35 :j0 -
If you like the outdoors and enjoy investigating, you could have a go at Geocacheing (not sure how its spelt!) I only heard about it on Simon Mayo's show the other week, but it sounds like quite a lot of fun..

or letterboxing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letterboxing_(hobby) (which is similar)Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -
Thanks for all the input - so many interesting hobbies you all have.
Has anybody ever done 'scrapbooking'? It's not something I've ever even looked into, but it just sounds interesting. There's the crafts side of it (which I like the idea of doing, but am actually quite pants at doing), plus the idea that it could be an ongoing project, and could take on a life of its own. I joined Pinterest for vaguely similar reasons, but it's just not satisfying, and not the same.0 -

How long have you got? I am a bit of a 'dabbler' - I love to learn new things and find I get bored just doing one hobby. So here goes - the list of current hobbies includes:
Card making (am currently making all the invites for my sons wedding next year)
I love parchment craft - but prefer to do wall art rather than cards (and I cheat a lot!)
Quilling - bought a starter kit (well, it was free with a mag I wouldnt have bought otherwise) and am slowly getting to grips with it! I am already thinking 'now, I could do something really alternate with this.......most of the designs are dead boring!
I think that is all the papercrafting!
Beading - I love beading with the grandkids, and we are making stretchy bracelets currently (I amused the guy in the craft shop when buying more stretchy cord, as upon hearing it was for 4 - 8 years he showed me the 'kids' beads - and I said they were more sophisticated than that! they prefer a bit of 'bling' and my 'best' beads! lol
I love to cook too - I like to try to remember my nans recipes and recreate them - the only recipe she ever wrote down was for her christmas cake.
I love to make sweeties - Honey fudge is my fave, but I have made many others including Turkish Delight (a lot easier than people think).
oh and Cupcakes - make those with all the grandkids esp the five year old grandson - he really loves to bake - but no-one is allowed to try the results as they are 'for mummy'!
I crochet blankets for the grandkids - got one on the go at the mo.
I knit too - Dolls clothes! I tend to get bored with larger garments so knit for either babies or Dollies!
er Thats iT I think! unless you count MSE and watching crafting on tv (for ideas and inspiration - NoT to Shop! (well, sometimes).0 -
OP, is so refreshing to see someone react so positively to suggestions given rather than come up with excuses why they can't do anything.
I'd love to read a blog of you trying all the different suggestions!Sealed Pot Challenge 2011 #11480 -

scrapbooking is part of papercrafting - and everyone can do it! you can do it as simply or as complicated as you like!
There are some beautiful 'kits' out there to get you started or if you like computer crafting then some awesome DVD-Roms.
I would suggest watching create and craft tv for ideas. I get a lot of tips and inspiration from just watching the shows. It isnt all high powered sales pitch - they get a lot of experts in to show how to use the products and how to put together pages or cards. (Scrapbooking and cardmaking seem to be very closely linked, the products can be used in either way mostly)
I will pm you more info hun if scrapbooking takes your fancy!0
